Both are about the path of a young man who first pays allegiance to GMD, and next decides to shift to the Communist side, and it is mostly set in Shanghai. Both are about a female undercover agent from the Chinese Communist Party ; both are gripping stories (although Sparrow meanders around a mysterious file) and both pay much attention to details filmed.

A romance set in Republican era Shanghai that features undercover agents although more concerned about a revenge plot than about politics. It is less historical, but conveys the Romanticism of that era for Chinese audience. The FL, Jing Tian, is also very fiery, with musical skills despite it is more for dancing tango than playing the piano.

Runyu the God of night and dragon emperor of Heaven realm dabbles with stars and destinies in this long drama, while Rong Yu in The Inextricable Destiny reads star charts and teaches astrology. Both are rather mysterious to start with, although both have an ambiguous love for their chosen one. Are star charts and ba-zi calculated compatibility or Yuánfèn destiny really powerful to explain the evolution of a relationship? Both couples are supposed to be compatible: Jinmi is water element like Runyu, and opposed to fire element in Xufeng ; Jiuling is a fiery wildcat who seems more suited with the rising prince Yinxiao, and to have nothing in common with the cool stargazer. But they will both choose the opposite side.

The story is about a young woman's whose direct family has been wronged but who achieves to right the wrongs. The family relationship is different, but the ML is a marquis, if not at all a villain. It is a very good Historical drama too, although no fantasy or wuxia is involved.
