Finally finished watching. The ending although not ideal, wasn’t as bad as I had expected from all those spoilers…
I was right about Xue Chongzi’s age regression! Overall the aesthetics and music in this drama are the best. I love Elder Yue the most. His love with Yunque was the one who seemed the most genuine that’s why it managed to touch my heart. The same goes for Hanya Si’s love for YWS and YQ. The writing really got very illogical from Ep 20 onwards. At that point, things happened just to push the plot forward. All that aside, what I find super hard to look past is the fights between Gong Family & Wufeng. The elders & their families in the back hills were supposed to be very strong & powerful but Wufeng assassins killed them so easily duh! Jinfan’s supposed to be the genius Red Jade Guardian but he lost to a Wang assassin. So technically, Wufeng assassins are stronger than Gong! GZY the SW is even funnier. Haven’t even actually fought and he got attacked by witchcraft and that’s it, he needed YWS & everyone’s help again. Ziyi got surrounded by guns and they shot her at close range. She walked away unscathed! She’s invincible! If that’s the case, Wufeng is actually far stronger than Gong Family! They didn’t have to send spies. They could just all go full-on attack them and wipe off all Gong Family. And finally the most ridiculous is the Huas. You’d think the elder family who’s in charge of weapons would know how to give a good fight. I know the story wants to portray YM Hua as weaker physically but smart with inventions but to live up to the reputation of back hill ppl, he shouldn’t be THAT lousy with swords. When Elder Hua appeared, I expected a good fight coz he’s an Elder for goodness sake! But just a few exchange and he got stabbed 🙄. And who’s that Wufeng assassin again? Just another Wang maybe. At this point I wanted to defect to Wufeng for real. And the champion of ridiculousness is that the Wufeng assassin actually gave time to the Huas to talk to each other for so long! 🤣 wth was that?! Such compassion from an assassin! Wufeng ain’t so bad after all! Duhhhh! So that ultimate face-off between Gong & Wufeng was a huge let down to me & that is more damaging than the ending imo.

I’m blaming the director. I haven’t finished watching but got spoiled left & right already so I know what ppl are mad abt. If that’s the case then everyone would feel like they’ve been scammed by the director. Ppl talk abt S2 but due to China’s regulation, a drama can’t come out with S2 for at least half a year later or a year later I forgot. By that time ppl would’ve moved on. Writing a story with so many plot twists but not thing the loose ends properly is the worst writing ever. Worse than a BE.

If a junior in the family can behave like a boss just coz the elders lost his respect then these Elders really have no power at all. I’m more annoyed at how they handled the interrogation in the hall with Elder Yue kneeling together with the juniors. Then GSJ decided to stand up and accuse Elder Yue and Elder Yue had to keep kneeling and looking up at GSJ, answering his accusations? At that point there’s no solid evidence yet. What would be better is to let the Elders handle the Elders’ issues. If they started the whole hierarchy system in the family and made it out to be so important, then there should be some decorum. But the director decided to put logic aside and give a character free reign. That’s what frustrates me actually. Things that don’t make sense. And I don’t think the late SW favored his sons for no reason. The Yu Lineage is the one who takes care of internal affairs within the Gong Family so they are a succession of SW. I haven’t watched the ending so I can’t say for sure that GZY was or wasn’t the chosen one for a reason but for his father to put a Red Jade Guardian beside him and not GHY the older bro says something.

Ah let me rant. I don’t expect anything in return. I just need to get off my chest. I agree every rule is dumb and everyone is either toxic or useless in the Gong Family, They should just let the Wufeng come and fight it off.

Then what’s the Elders for? If GSJ doesn’t like it he could just kill them all. He was even ok with killing Elder Yue! And everyone just effing shut up and let him talk and decide on things. And that lil shit bro(I still think he’s the smartest Gong) being so rude to the Xue in the back hills. I was expecting blue-haired boy to teach him a lesson but NOTHING! What da heck?!
