Can't believe the state of that last message I posted. I look like I wrote it drunk! I was texting so fast at the opticians before my appointment. He was waiting for me to finish! π€£. I've had to man the lap top to reply to this for fingers to better keep with with thoughts!!! As ever that was a really great analysis and picked up a whole load of nuances that I completely missed. Have you got a literature/psychology degree? Or are you just blessed by the angels??? π€£ It really deepens my enjoyment in the show which has me absolutely mesmerised. I'm going to have to watch the whole thing again slowly and read the novel as well. The story of Feng Zhi and Gao Zhun is truly shocking. However, I am not against these stories being told. I don't believe anyone is saying that this is okay. Human behaviour can be pretty dark and people don't always behave well, they don't even need to be inherently evil. I'm pretty sure by now that Feng Zhi should be in therapy himself especially as abandoning a patient like that without some sort of safety net is, for me, the most shocking part of it considering Gao Zhun's huge vulnerability. I take onboard that he may be the only one able to reach GZ. I also am grateful for the safety net of the other story at this point which gives us all a respite (temporary it would seem (Gods above! but what did we expect!)) before the next set up for Ep 10 (and now we all have to engage in various distraction strategies for several days!).
I'm just wondering in a slight change of direction: did you do an analysis of To My Shore? I remember being completely immersed in that and I have a similar feeling with watching this. I tend to like my dramas dark and complex!
