I started this for KGE but the first 4 episodes were hard to get through. I’m on episode 8 and the FL has told the ML that she loves him. These leads have spent so little time together and most of it was her thinking he was crazy, so I cannot believe that she loves him or he her really. The pacing is all over the place and the plot has unexplainable holes in it. My head hurts trying to make sense of it. Plus, the FL & ML have very little chemistry. My question is: should I keep going? does it get better?
Truly loved everything about this show; from the cinematography, to the acting to the plot— it was everything a kdrama should be or at least aspire to be.
My only gripe was the ML’s decision to break away from FL to marry for her “safety”.
He allowed fear of his father to rule his mind and it pissed me off that he pulled the rug out from under the FL at such a vulnerable moment to break her heart.
It showed how men have all the freedom to do as they wish, where women, or in this case, the King, have their hands tied as they are bound to the rules that they are confined to.
I had hoped he would appease his father and inform the FL of what the ML’s father had threatened and they could’ve worked together to make a decision.
When he didn’t listen to the FL in the early episodes to leave her and the palace, he did as he wished— leaving the first time or staying in the palace, but when she tried to do the same to him, he shut her out and walked away.
I don’t think he fully grasped the gravity of the situation he was leaving her in and the devastation she felt after he did that to her; her father did it to her and she suffered alone for years because of it.
To me, I didn’t think he was the right fit for her; her cousin sacrificed himself for her and devoted himself to her from day one and even in the end, he took her place and gave her the freedom that she should’ve had all those years ago.
I think the ML’s last minute decision to leave her really made me turn against him as her love interest because ultimately, he took the easy way out. He wasn’t protecting her as he was either going to leave with his new wife or stay within the palace and the FL would be forced to live with her lover married and possibly with children down the line and have to keep her mouth shut.
I know it’s just a show at the end of the day, but that shit would be a deal breaker for me 😐
With all that said, I immensely enjoyed this show and the ending where the cousin and her staff come to see her on the beach was a beautiful way to end such a poignant show!
I put this on pause after ep 23 because it felt like it stagnated quite a bit. I am sick to death of this audit business and the FL putting herself into dangerous situations which the ML has to constantly sacrifice himself for. I’m 7 mins into ep 24 and it cannot keep my attention. I need someone to tell me when this picks up and when these two get together finally because I’m losing the will to live watching it. It’s a shame because prior to ep 20, I was binging this every day.
First few episodes were really funny and the chemistry and tension between the leads was on fire and then once they get together in ep 9/10 the chemistry and tension fizzles out and they’re like siblings for the rest of the show 💀
wait, it’s been 15 years?!? I thought it was like 10! That’s a long time to come back and assume that the…
tbh… 10 years is still a lot of time never mind 15. I’m starting to think this is all just a dream and that this is from when she’s in the coma or something because it just doesn’t seem realistic idk 🙈
The second couple is so freaking cute! Giving me butterflies. I feel so bad for the SFL since her mom seems awful,…
wait, it’s been 15 years?!? I thought it was like 10! That’s a long time to come back and assume that the FL would want to have anything to do with him. 💀
Never in my life have I watched a show that has deeply affected me as this one. Most of the newer kdramas that have come out in the last few years have failed to move me and to be frank, are pretty surface level. I binged this in 3 days and I never wanted it to end. They don’t make them like this anymore. This show will stay with me for a long time. Sone incredible acting from everyone and tbh I think this is one of LDW’s better shows; I’ve found his acting very wooden in newer shows, but here, he really shines. A complete 10/10 Kdrama for me in every way!
I’ve been eating this drama up since day one but by episode 22, Chen Yi is making me wanna slap some sense into him! He’s being OTTJ&P (which I approve of) BUT he isn’t going further than that. I understand there are things that happened after that fire that we haven’t been show yet and I know tha ZB is a big reason for him not making things official but he needs to let MJ know about what’s going on so that they can work together to untangle him from this chain around his neck and move forward for their future! I just feel like with 9 episodes left, how is this all going to wrap up? MJ is talking about leaving and I know from the novel that this is to push him into action but idk how this will play out in the drama. Also, Tu Li still thinking she has a chance is completely delusional 😭ugh I am not gonna watch ep. 23, I will wait until the remaining episodes are released because my blood pressure is through the roof right now 💀
I loved this at the start until around ep 20 when Tongzhou’s obsession takes the driver seat and we are left to watch the FL, despite him murdering their friends and slowly torturing her, STILL believes there’s good in him and he’ll overcome his madness. even when she comes back after 10 years as a mortal, she thinks she can talk him out of his obsession. This and the FL’s stubbornness to see the enemies around her until it’s too late really ruined this show for me. When LF and XY come back after 10 years, I thought we’d get to see a bit of their time together but it was all about Tongzhou. XY & LF stopping Gelin from killing Tongzhou annoyed me too, they wouldn’t allow her any retribution for her sister and friend. It was a waste of time to watch for me.
I really hope she's not actually his girlfriend. It would completely take away from the beauty of the leads' love…
he didn’t push her away to date another woman. he pushes her away (in the novel) because he doesn’t want her to get mixed up in the shady business he is in. she would be used against him. he wants the best for her. Is he not allowed to date other people? they were separated for 6 years… both hurt in their own ways but he never expected to see her again and be in his life. It would be different if they were together and he cheated on her, but that’s not the case. many people are in love with others and can’t be with them for whatever reason and they move on for a variety of reasons— companionship, sexual release etc… life is not black and white. People need to get over this idealised version of love, where two people live like monks because of their undying love for the other. it happens, but it’s rare. just because they were with other people doesn’t taint the love they have for each other, it’s just life. 🤷🏻♀️
One of the worst shows I’ve ever watched. The most confusing, nonsensical plot with so many holes, you really just had to watch it for the smut. Wasn’t worth it imo.
I’ve been cutting LF some slack over her treatment of LX but why is she blindly trusting Qin?? I’m ep. 16 and I really hope she sees him for what he is quickly because she’s starting to annoy me now.
