I feel like the eps have gotten a lot slower and have less drive than before; like the plot is dragging. I didn’t really understand how LXX got the that ledge or why he was on the edge considering he is terrified of heights… I know it was a way for the leads to find out more about their stories etc… but that could’ve been done in a number of more believable ways… it just seemed so contrived. I am really ready for their present day episodes because at this point it just seems to have lost its momentum for now. I’m struggling to finish ep 12…

Far too much screen time spent on the SML again. I really don’t see the appeal of a man full on stalking the woman he likes to the point where she has had to repeatedly reject his advances and yet he keep coming back. It’s not cute or romantic, it’s creepy 💀

one of the best Kdramas I have watched in a longtime. they didn't manage to screw it up at the 11th hour with unnecessary conflicts or the dreaded amnesia arc, it was just a pure and simple ending where loose ends were tied up and everyone got a HE and the bad guy got his comeuppance. 10/10 for me!

Do we have any info on when we will get episodes in the present timeline yet? I love their past but I am dyyyying for their present scenes together and all the angst that goes with it!

They really are! I’m up to ep 13 and completely loving the main leads. although I will say the second leads are kind of annoying with the SML basically stalking the SFL. I swear episode 12 they had more screen time than the leads 😅

completely agree. I’m all caught up and just found out we’re down to 1 episode a day 😭

I am actually on ep 4 and liking it a lot more now. I just thought ep 1 was quite rough with the editing etc but I have since found out they had to do AI face on the ex which sucks, reminds me of POJ and the actor that had his face changed. it just takes you out of the show a bit but other than that I’m quite liking it now!

I need someone to tell me if this gets better. I finished episode one and so far haven’t been feeling it. the editing is taking me out of the show quite a bit and the weird AI face on the FL’s bf is also making it worse. I know I’ve only watched one episode, but does it honestly get better? I love both WC & TJC so I do want to give it a chance.

can someone explain to me why Zhou Wan can’t just come clean with Lu Xi Xiao and tell him the truth once and for all? I feel like I’m missing the point here? like is this what separates them? I feel like it’s gonna be bigger than her concealing this and using him to get back at the mother or does it get worse from here on out?

not even finished episode 2 and I just KNOW this is going to be one hell of a ride. I’m mentally preparing myself for the emotional breakdown I’ll have when the separation happens 😭it’s giving L&P vibes ✨

what do we think is the reasoning behind the Cangbei Princesses’ maid/servant going to stay in the Ding mansion? it can’t just be because she grew up with MX and has a childhood love for him? surely it’s more than that? I feel like there’s more fires being added in the show for YeLi to put out and potentially more enemies to navigate too. I wonder how this will all play out when she starts to realise that her old servant and master are not real, or she does know deep down, but uses it as a coping mechanism to get through what she needs to do.

having said all that, the one character that I absolutely despised for so much of this show, ended up being my favourite and most cherished character and that was Ye Xian! he was such a a lonely and devastating character who never really had a chance growing up as the heir to a family he couldn’t fight or protect because of his illness. it was fascinating to see how the bitterness of his life and the fact that he was relegated to being an outcast in his own family transformed so beautifully to his final stand, protecting his country, serving his king and doing his family proud. I know he went initially to protect FL but in the end it was for his people. a very in depth character that WinWin brought to life. I will def watch more dramas that he’s in because of his acting!

the ending of the show while a very good episode with lots of beautiful cinematography and acting on everyone’s part, completely forgot to tie up loose ends and give the viewer a satisfying ending to a 40 ep show. after the very emotional scenes from ML’s mother over her regrets about her son, the FL risking her life and making arrangements for her loved ones, the unfinished business after the PM & wife died… the fact that FL & ML were at it every night and she never got pregnant considering they’d been married at least a year (or more considering the 3 year mourning period for the Marquis and YX was already back to work?), there was so much left unfinished in the show and the pacing went to hell and it really showed. the bonus episode, while lovely, wasn’t what I was expecting— there should’ve been a HE that the couple deserved and even seeing how the FL’s sister’s life went too? like I actually ended up loving her and she had such a great redemption arc too and I feel like there was so much wasted potential in the end 🥺

I also felt that the ML let both YX and CXQ away with quite a bit tbh… he allowed the FL to be physically threatened more than once by YX (I know they weren’t together but he clearly cared deeply for her, maybe his scheming at that point in time was more important) then when they were married he allowed his own nephew to terrorise her for a while before everything came out and take her name and reputation both in the family home and at court. it kinda oissed me off; he was too soft hearted and yet treated FL really badly when he went MIA on her… she was out in the cold for hours on end waiting for him and even after he was told and she got sick… none of that side plot came to fruition; he wasn’t confronted over it by the FL and I think it would’ve been a great opportunity for him to reflect.

in regard to Gu Jin Zhao’s culminative conflict with Chen Xuan Qing and Chen Yan Yun’s realisation that she did indeed have feelings for his nephew, I really thought that the FL would take the opportunity to reassure ML of her feelings for him. from the first episode where they both meet in the corridor on her grandmothers estate, the camera pans to FL looking at ML like she’s stunned. it made it look like it was almost love at first sight and this repeated itself throughout the show. idk maybe it’s just me but I really thought she had feelings for ML from the beginning but didn’t dare act on it because of age, social status and class considering her family used to be servants to his. I feel like it was a wasted opportunity after such a stunning build up to him finding out. he really took it hard and in the end he seems to have been the one that fell in love at first sight or at least very early on, not her

I loved this show so much. it was an unexpected delight to watch! it’s on the slower side of things but the pacing (for the most part) was so well done along with most of the plot. the family dynamics were also really well done and comedic relief that the wider Gu family provided was so funny to witness. I think RM & CS were a fantastic couple, their chemistry and acting with their eyes conveyed so much unspoken emotional intelligence and love, that I never faltered in thinking they wouldn’t get their HE. the plot and the intricate schemes were very interesting and entertaining to watch unfold and the conflict of the other two love interests had me on the edge of my seat. so much about this show was so well done for me but I do have some complaints..
