FL shows too much mercy.

The emperor was the most competent I have seen portrayed in any c-drama. Then again it makes sense since she made it to the top, against all odds, by herself, rather than just inheriting it. Also the biggest sin I see here is the ridiculously low score given to this series.

this is actually a very common plot point in period cdrama. it's not always strictly step mother but some sort older female figure in the family combined with a frail long dead mother and a pathetic father who deserves to have his d*ck chopped off.

Story of Minglan (good grandma, one step-mum evil concubine the other useless "main" mother, FL clever, same type of stupid father, real mum dead when fl was small. very similar themes but very different vibes, personally one of my fav cdrama.

The Double (not exactly FL but sort of just watch you'll see)

Si jin (same ML, but the problem is aunt + grandma)

I am on episode 12 and I found him super creepy. I came here to fish out some clues on whether he becomes a major nuisance because seeing him somehow makes my blood boil... I was not prepared for this. looks like I will go through major frustrations ffs 🙄

yes I agree. she should have just ignored the epidemic and let everyone in the Palace die because corpses destined to rot are obviously more important than living people. Also with everyone dead she wouldn't get punished. that would be more morally righteous.

it does have a somewhat viscous feel to its pacing but 7.8 feels a bit low. 8.3 ish
