Honestly I really enjoyed the time in Lin’an. The visuals were incredible for the first 20 eps. I was going to give this drama a 10/10 but I think I’ll rate it like a 9 - 9.2ish just because I felt the story after ep 30 wasn’t clearing up. I have watched many dramas since I was young but this drama has been the only one that has had me confused with the plot, I only realized that Wei Yan was Xie Zheng’s uncle, I always wondered “who is Wei Yan?” but that’s my fault. The overall story before ep 30 was great, I feel the entire plot was strangely disproportionate. We never saw the main couple’s kids, neither did we see a scene where all the innocent people Changyu and Xie Zheng deeply fought for, being publicly declared innocent, it’s like the plot and the whole reason Xie Zheng and Changyu fought was dropped, there was no closure. The old palace situation was also bad, there wasn’t enough clear explanation of what happened 17 years ago and honestly all those deaths throughout the drama wasn’t worth being justified for the “plot” aka Wei Yan’s drunk comment. Also don’t get me started with the what if end scene. I was so annoyed, I really hate what if’s and it just ruined the drama for me. I genuinely feel more episodes were needed cause the ending was not well done and it felt rushed. Overall I am happy I finished the drama as this is my first ever 40 episode drama (I couldn’t stand long dramas before), and K can’t believe I’m saying this but It needed more episodes, it didn’t even feel like I watched 40 episodes (that’s good) and as a long time drama watcher and fan of a good story, the plot and the way it was delivered lacked a bit. Anyways, I still loved the visuals, the powerful sevens with that song that gave me goosebumps. The emperor was so funny, I liked watching him struggle with Wei Yan and Grand Tutor Li. I also really liked Gonsun and the Princess’ little romance they were cute, and Gongsun was funny as well. Honestly the recruited did a good job with the visuals hehe. Sui Yangqing was also funny and interesting, such a good actor. I think it just failed at the end with the proportion and clarification of the plot, it’s still a good drama. Also one more, the story felt more Yu Qian Qian’s after some point than the main lead’s, at the end she got everything which makes me think that her being from far away actually makes her the main character in some aspect, everything somehow linked to her. I feel conflicted with my rating, I would like to give it a ten but what I said makes me not give it such. I think that it was bittersweet to see how the plot unfolded. I really disliked the end scene and the ending but I have to admit, despite it’s negatives it was still a good drama.

Person Wang Jia Xuan
Hope he gets a ml drama, the only reason I continued watching The Princess’ Gambit to a certain point, was because he caught my attention with his acting.

I managed to watch 25 episodes of the drama as I was giving another c-historical dram a go. I really loved watching LOTFG so I gave this one a try and I was honestly about to drop it very early on when the ML attacked the female lead, I was honestly disgusted, but I continued through and binged watched it till the moment on the cliff. I was really enjoying it but then after the cliff scene the drama dragged on, it took unescessary characters and made them into full episodes without actually revealing any information in the 3rd princes’ connection to the Queen of Beiyuan, honestly that among other things after that one scene. But what got me the most was the memory loss, yes it’s realistic to have memory loss after a deadly loss but it just dragged the plot and had the male lead looking bad. I was impressed by the fl and ml’s acting, but the story is not that good after the clif scene. I’m going to have to drop it, as a long time drama watcher, this drama at the very most needed 30 episodes not 36 I would’ve been happy if it ended at 25 episodes, that would’ve made the story progress quicker and I wouldn’t be missing out on 10 long episodes of slow plot to find out the motives of beiyuan and the third prince. 25 episodes, what a bummer it could’ve been a good drama if the directors had cut down some episodes
and directed it well. I’ll definitely be checking out the ml and fl lead’s other dramas, they were very good at acting.
