I'm wading through Asian movie cesspool. Why? I like to dive in it.

Falling for Korea: Transnational Couples

I use the full 1-10 rating unlike mostly every other K-fan. Every single entry on this site never goes lower than 7/10 and people hand out 10/10s like "the perfect drama" or "the perfect movie" is an easy feat.

Every K-fan uses rating system like it's almost religious and rating any lower than 7 is blasphemy, and will earn them divine punishment from Korean drama gods. And 90% just rate purely for the visuals, "OPPPAAA!!! ermaigerrdah! *Squeal*  10/10"  -- no, that's not a review that's just excessive fangasming.

Think about it like this, if everything was rated as perfect then doesn't that mean nothing is actually perfect but more along the lines of normal?

I review objectively, I criticize all aspects and not just get lost in great visuals. I've rated dramas with actors I absolutely love, lower than 5 and rated dramas with actors I don't like at all, higher than 8.

Here are the ratings and their meanings:

1/10 - Irredeemably bad; Absolutely no redeeming qualities. This is my rarest rating by far. I only give it to a film that has nothing I could have possibly enjoyed.

2/10 - Really bad; A film that is a 1/10 except it has one or two things that I can latch onto. Maybe there’s one good character or the action is cool.

3/10 - Bad; A film that has some good moments, but just isn’t good. A film that is a 3/10 isn’t incompetent, but it also has very few things that would ever make you want to revisit it.

4/10 - Poorly made; A film that is watchable. Maybe that’s because it has one thing done exceptionally well. It could also be because it does everything competently but nothing well.

5/10 - Mediocre; A film that either has just as much good stuff as bad stuff or is overall very forgettable.

6/10 - Passable; A film that is pretty ok. It probably has enough going for it that you weren’t upset you watched it, but not nearly enough that you would want to recommend it to anybody.

7/10 - Good; A film that you might recommend, but maybe has one major failing. It could also be a film that just teeters on the edge of being great. Either way, I’d recommend about 75% of 7/10s.

8/10 - Great; A film that could be great if a couple of things were changed. It could also be a movie that was never going to be exceptional but is very well done.

9/10 - Near masterpiece; A film that is so close to being perfect, but just wasn’t quite there. Or, a film that was incredible but did one tiny little thing wrong.

10/10 - Perfect/Masterpiece Virtually flawless and exceptionally enjoyable.
