Its actually a gimmick to abide by the laws. In the past chinese dramas could go upto 60+ or even 100+ episodes... then the govt implicated laws to limit the number of episodes to below 40 something ...actually there are many clauses, some are allowed below 40, some must be below 25 and so on... so then came the era of releasing Season 1 and 2 with just a few months break
