In my opinion, it's not like everyone like the main couple less than the side pairing. It's not in the love story itself, cause the story is just a common troupe. Nothing special. But, they felt attached to Gao Tu's character. For the main couple, HuaSheng, they're a power couple. No power imbalance there. A strong alpha x strong enigma. Both the top of the hierarchy. But for shenGao's pairing, we have a power imbalance there. Shen with his alpha's trait, young, handsome, successful, confident. And comes Gao Tu, poor family's background, heavy baggage, low self-esteem. It's easier to feel attached to Gao Tu's character. Cause most of us, can "feel" his hardship and can understand the way he sees the world. And what I like more personally is, he is not a damsel in distress , he can make the right decision when the time comes for him to choose between his love for SWL or his baby's life.
