You are right. I’m totally used to the daughter donation or arranged marriage thing. I’m sensitive to these things so I react. I paused after 18. She is engaged to someone else but the emperor decides to marry her instead. There’s a brutal separation scene in 17 and she is forced by her family to be given to the emperor. Obviously it’s played to perfection because the entire fandom is touched by the scene.
