the other overlapping point missed is she only went that path because of a teacher purposely ruining her hard…
It doesn’t at all justify the crime she committed against an innocent teacher. Retaliating against someone who has never harmed you and destroying their life in the process can never be excused by some past trauma a person has endured.
Exactly !!!! Someone with common sense…… I don’t understand how people can see the opposite of what was…
Agreed! But the Western justice system isn’t any better tbh. They’re morally corrupt one way or another
But yeah, I really don’t get people’s hypersensitive reactions about this; they should be glad that it’s spreading awareness via a medium that will reach many
I can't believe some people are claiming that this promotes child abuse. That's so funny. First of all, the bullies depicted are teenagers. There's a difference between a child and a teenager. You can call them minors, but not children. But more importantly, people like to hide behind chronological age and state-determined age of majority, which are meaningless. What truly matters is mental awareness; if they're old enough to realize that they're inflicting pain on someone, choose to do so willingly, and even sadistically enjoy it as they do, then there's no way they can be deemed children. Childhood is innocence, naïveté and ignorance combined, none of which the bullies portrayed bore an ounce of. And in such extreme cases as depicted, a taste of your own medicine is the unavoidable way to deal with such scum. An eye for an eye.
I also saw someone comment about how episode 3 promotes pedophilia and shuns female victims for reporting it?? Do people actually watch the material before throwing about nonsense? The episode addressed the issue of false accusations made by girls/women against innocent boys/men and the disastrous consequences this defamation can lead to, including character assassination, unjust public outrage, slander and the suicide of the falsely accused. How someone's takeaway message from this was the shunning of actual, real victims of sexual abuse is beyond me. If us women want to address situations in which we're victims, then we have to realize it's a two-way street.
It's been a while since I've gotten attached to a male lead in a kdrama, but this one was everything I look for in male characters. He's a strong, manly man of integrity, self-possession, loyalty, impeccable character, with a profoundly good heart. I also adore the mentor-mentee relationship he had with Han Rim and the only flaw I have to point out about the drama is the lack of development of it. That flashback of him saving her in episode 4 jolted me in the best of ways, and I wish they would've shown more of what became of them after, of him inspiring her to join the military and training her as he obviously did, since both her fighting style and catchphrases are a reflection of his. It was a beautiful dynamic that could've been explored further, and the flashback felt a bit tantalizing since it seemed like a sneak peek into more of which we didn't get to be privy to. And how it came full circle when she held her hand for him to take in the finale after he got stabbed...They even played the same song, please, they're so precious
I also love how Hwa Jin always gave the victims agency before saving them; asking them to ask him to help is such a beautiful way of underlining how they themselves took matters into their own hands to get out of their situation. I loved that nuance because it removes the idea of them being helplessly in distress as he swoops in and saves the day. He made it a point to emphasize how it was their decision to speak up and ask for a helping hand that ultimately ended their turmoil. I loved that about him; it made him selfless in my eyes, like he wanted the credit of the saving to be transferred from him to the victim
Anyway, I really loved the cast and their team dynamics, and I'll miss them quite a lot <3
the most satisfying drama I've seen in a very long time! It felt so cathartic to not only witness justice prevail, but for it to be implemented by adults on behalf of victimized students, which we never get to see usually. I'll repost the comment I had written way before the drama aired, because it shows how every one of my expectations was met without fail:
This is one of the dramas I'm looking forward to the most! The premise is really unique because all the bullying kdramas I've seen were understandably from the perspective of the students, the victims of said bullying, where the adults are mostly nonexistent or play an incredibly passive, background role. It's similar to how the police are portrayed in detective fiction that centers around an amateur detective. But this one's different; the main characters ARE the adults, so we'll be privy to this shift in point of view, to get the missing perspective that's always omitted from such stories. It'll show what will happen if the adults in the room aren't just background characters/extras letting the bullying unfold without consequence. What if the adults actually do try to stop it? How will that change the course of these students' future? What if the revenge story isn't orchestrated by the victim this time, but by the adult who puts a stop to it before it escalates? What if the bullies do get punished by the rightful authority figures, and relearn to fear instead of dismiss them? I think it's a much-needed drama in this era of submissive teachers and egotistical students. I can't wait!
> senior actor Namkoong MinReally? I am pretty sure something was lost in translation. I mean Namkoong Min…
She probably just said ''sunbae'', which is a word Koreans use in relation to someone who started working in an industry before them. It's like a honorific used to demonstrate respect toward someone more experienced in a field. It can even be used for someone younger in age, but who started working the job before you.
the one drama of hers I'm not interested in watching and they make a season 2 out of it :'( wish they'd made a season 2 of memories of alhambra instead
Man, am I glad this is over. One of the worst rom-coms I've seen in so long. I only finished it because I hate dropping dramas and because it had actors I cared about. What a waste of Kim Bum, Ahn Hyo Seop and Yoon Jae Chan. It's such a shame they couldn't have picked a better script...
The writing was aimless and sloppy. I felt like I was watching filler scenes waiting for the central plot to unfold until the drama ended. The main leads had 0 chemistry, their entire relationship was a cringe-fest, really. Both of their personalities were so unidimensional and stagnant. The supporting cast was wasted in more ways than one; Jae Chan had a more pivotal role in Twinkling Watermelon even though he was part of a bigger friend group in that drama. But good writing can make every supporting character shine with his own side-plots. Here, most characters could've been written out of the show without it hindering the story. Kim Bum's character was sadly useless; I've never seen such a second male lead being underutilized and basically forgotten in a drama before. Second leads usually have such an impactful presence that even rivals the male lead's sometimes. Yet here, he felt like a puppet propped up every now and then to give us goofy smiles and vibes. I'm so disappointed. He deserved so much better. I'll probably re-watch law school to feel better lol... I miss my Han Joon Hwi
This drama felt like it often forgot about many of its characters, only to prop them back up every now and then to hide its carelessness. Every scene felt shallow and pointless, the resolution of the main plot was rushed and anti-climatic...Don't get me started on the insufferable female character acting like she's cute
Some will say oh but it's a romcom, don't take it so seriously, as if this is our first time watching one. Romantic comedies can, despite the hackneyed lovable tropes, remain engaging, captivating, sweet and humorous if properly written. Doctor Slump is a prime example; the leads had beautiful chemistry and a gem of a bond, their respective pasts were intricately explored and rewardingly resolved, every character had purpose...Anyway. Hope Kim Bum, AHS and YJC get better opportunities next time
absolutely wholesome and soul-filling, thank you for such a simple yet most satisfying drama and the last episode is just what I hope for in dramas; when the climax is in the episode before last, we get to enjoy a finale that's all about the emotional denouement and the new beginnings, instead of the rushed endings most dramas are into for some reason
I fell in love with this quartet and their bantering friendship, and it's a crime that we didn't get to see more of it. These are the dramas that deserve more episodes, yet it's the cliché cringe-worthy ones that get 12-16 episodes these days
The friendship, the sea, the cozy island setting free from the robotic city lifestyle, the food...It felt like this is what we all secretly wish for. Peace, quiet, nature and good company.
special shoutout to the male lead's best friend, who was a breath of fresh air and always brought the goofiest of smiles to my face. He should've been introduced from the beginning :') hope to see more of all of them in different projects. At least Sang Jun will be back in the summer with flex x cop 2
Surprisingly my favourite drama so far this year. I'll forever die on the train of underrated yet healing dramas (this, love all play, a piece of your mind, and such)
I was tempted to watch it because the cover of it caught my eye but I’ve been reading reviews and they all seem…
It honestly depends on your genre preferences, but I personally adore it! If you like mellow, slice of life, wholesome, uncomplicated plots that are just about dialing down and straying away from the robotic city life, I think you'd like it. It's very straightforward and direct, without the fanfare of a million side-plots or an enormous cast, the focus solely being on the two main characters who are sort of finding solace in each other and in diving as a shared passion/hobby. It won't be winning any awards because it's not your mainstream type of drama, but I love it, t's uplifting. The episodes are really short (30min), so give the first two a try to see if it's your cup of tea :)
the queen would've been a more compelling female lead and the prime minister was way more interesting than the male lead too I love Jieun but her character was insufferable from beginning to end in this I finally forced myself to watch the last two episodes just because I hate dropping dramas The only drama I've loved of bws is record of youth. Now that had authenticity and emotion. The lead trio (bo gum, so dam and him) really delivered. It's a shame he doesn't get good lead roles
absolutely love this I love how low-budget it seems, because the simplicity of it allows them to tap into authenticity, unlike most dramas nowadays, which have so much going on, so many flashy attires, special effects, etc. that it all just feels like noise This drama on the other hand is so simple and genuine, it truly feels real. I can genuinely believe that those two characters exist on that island and their journey's quite wholesome. I'm also really glad Sang Jun finally got his lead role, and the female lead is really adorable

Yes, a really swell guy. Thinks that women belong in the kitchen and should definitely ALWAYS do what the husband…
I agree that people have been brainwashed into believing it's a worthless position, but just because many do doesn't mean I will subscribe to their twisted notions. I will continue to respect these women immensely as they're literally the backbone of families and societies. And I will respect any woman who chooses that role because there still are many out there who value their family more than a career, and choose to devote themselves entirely to their children and husband.
I won't allow people to belittle such amazing women, nor turn this man's words into a travesty when he was simply responding with honesty and transparency. If anything, he respects these underrated women a lot more than his accusers, who clearly regard stay-at-home mothers with unwarranted disdain
