Yes, that's one of the main reasons I was happy when they announced the release date for this drama. I've been missing the olden vibes in dramas from the 2010s and so far this is pretty similar to that vibe i feel so nostalgic about.

Update: I finished the episode, and it really only seems to be the scenes with the ex that are all weird. He seems photoshopped in through a greenscreen every time he's on screen. I'm assuming that there was a different actor originally, but after production and editing, there was a scandal regarding the actor for her ex, which is why it got so delayed, and they spent all this time poorly photoshopping in this replacement. If anyone knows the reason why all of these scenes with this guy are weird, please respond because it's really affecting my ability to enjoy the show.

I'm 30 minutes into the first ep and for some reason I'm still not hooked yet. But that aside, WHAT THE HELL is going on with the scene between FL and her current bf??? It's so obvious he's been photoshopped into the scene! He's sm bigger than FL in terms of camera dynamics, the audio is choppy, and the camera quality is really low. The photoshop job is also really badly done if I'm being honest. I've been the biggest fan of WCR since FOMH and have been waiting for this drama to come out for years, but if the rest of the show is going to be like what I've witnessed so far... idk how I'm gonna be able to watch 40 episodes of it.

I would like to say that 95% of the longing gazes are in private, but I totally agree with everything else you're saying. I guess I just like to turn my brain off when watching dramas like this so I don't really care if some small things like this dont really add up. Especially since we're being fed with this amazing chemistry between the leads.

They give me the typical vibes of a toxic couple w a sad ending, but I don't know how they would play that out with only 13 episodes left...

I think they're getting a bit of a pass rn bc of the fact that he's the commander of the imperial army and also very obviously under her command because he used to literally be her private guard before, due to her father's orders. But it is also just a lot of plot armour for them.

I AM SO OBSESSED WITH THEM OH MY GOD. I also did NOT expect that kiss, so it's safe to say I was literally screaming when that happened. Although this 1 ep a day airing schedule works for me due to exams, my soul demands and cries for more eps to watch lmao.

I agree it's not very amazing or over-the-top, but I definitely wouldn't say the budget was low enough to consider it a short drama. Because those long short dramas are typically VERY bad with these things, and the plot is usually horrible with a lot of loose ends, and this just doesn't look like that to me.

I don't think it is. Just looking at the costumes and editing. Also, Zhou Yiran is pretty popular, so if the budget was low, I don't think they would've cast him.

I think for 24 episodes, they're going to make it as slow-burning as possible. Just considering the fact that she has sworn off marriage and just came out of a relationship that has scarred her undoubtedly for life. But since we're used to slowburns being over the span of over 30 episodes, I guess it won't feel like much of a slowburn.

That's probably the best choice for you then. Right now, it looks like 75% politics, 20% fighting & war stuff, 5% romance + happiness. But i might be wrong cause ive never read the novel.
