Your comparison doesn't make any sense. It's like saying you can't go to Germany for vacation while still being pissed at the nazis. That being said, canceling an actress for something her great-grandfather did is completely stupid. I agree that he did the right thing by leaving her when he realized he caught feelings for someone else. But telling his friends, in a group chat, that she got on her knees and begged him to take her back was a jerk move. I don't like that the writer felt the need to turn him into a villain by doing this, it doesn't feel consistent with the mature way he handled the breakup
