Close to perfection.

I'll probably edit my review after rewatching the episode with the subs, but I already have many things to say. Since the subs are not out yet, I will do my best not to spoil.

1/ Music :

This is another drama with an incredible OST. Beautiful melodies, soft at times and intense when necessary. And to prove us that the OST is not the only thing that made some scenes as great as they were, they showed us the last scene of the previous episode, but with a different OST. The effect is different, but you can see how the acting is giving the scene all its intensity.

2/ Acting :

I often say that LSG is "as awesome as expected" but it doesn't exactly do him any justice. He is actually better than expected. all the nuances and the intensity in his scenes are so different from the way he acted in K2H that I can't really say I expected him to act the way he did. His expressions are overwelming.

(BTW today Gu Family Book fb page mentioned that today was LSG 10th anniversary as an entertainer)

One thing I really like about Kang Chi's character is his loyalty. We see enough rich and subborn brats who gets away with everything through their so-called cuteness. This main lead is loyal. And this is this loyalty of his that makes this particular scene with his step-mother so moving and intense.

As for Suzy, I find her still a bit average, even though I keep thinking she was well chosen for the part. I just think she needs to have her moment. And something tells me that episode 7 will be her chance to show some more emotions.

At some point, she will need to match LSG intensity, if not the scenes will risk to become unbalanced.

That's all for now. I'll probably edit it once the subs are out, but for now I don't want to spoil too much.

This won't happen twice...or will it ?

This is how I experienced this episode (Spoiler Alert):

1/ Ninja Fight Scene:

here is what I was thinking then

"That is so cool! I wonder how they are going to win against all those ninjas ! And...wait, how come this one didn't hear the guard enter the room, isn't he supposed to be a ninja ? Oh, well, this must be because this soldier is pretty badass."

2/ The Flashback Scene :

Those two kids are so cute together ! Now I understand why Dam Yeo Ul thought of it as a meaningful memory. Too bad he seems to have forgotten her.

3/ Gon Yi:

I really love that character! He is really different from all the guards we usually see in dramas, and also from most good-guy characters. You can really see that he cares about her, and that he dislikes being ignored, and the way he always fight with Kang Chi is so funny ! I really hope that they'll become close friends. If this continue, I'm going to end up with a severe second lead syndrome...

Also, in the scene when the two of them fight in from of Dam Yeo Ul, did you hear LSG's adorable high-pitched laugh ? I keep playing it over and over again !

4/ The hug.

I hate it. I hate it because she is exactly like Kang Chi's mother. So if history is supposed to repeat itself, then it means that he will always be in love with her. The only thing is that I think Dam Yeo Ul suits him better, and this other girl is in the way. Also, I hate that for now they seem to be the star-crossed lovers, with a meaningful and tragical destiny. I don't want Kang Chi to have any meaningful destiny with anyone except Dam Yeo Ul !

(wow, I seem pretty serious about this stuff...Don't mind me, I'm just being frustrated because I'm waiting for episode 6)

5/"11 more days..."

I really loved this scene. The two of them talking, and the monk speaking mysteriously and asking him not to go home at night (which, of course, he will still do) made this story look like a old tragedy, or a legend from some mythology book. There is always that kind of scene in legends, when a monk or an oracle tries to warn the hero about something dreadful that's going to happen...

But I'm slowly getting this "mythological air" is kind of the point of this drama. This is not just a story of a gumiho, but The Legend of THE Gumiho.

6/The ship.

I have mixed feeling about this scene. All those effects and this music, you get the impression that something great is happening, when actually you just have a righteous man who suddenly decides to invest in weapons. How is that a good thing ? I get that it's to protect the country, but the way the director makes is look, it's like he is doing something really incredible !

(Korean people, right now, in this scene, you are being manipulated. Aside from investing in weapons, there are many other things you can do to help your country. Just saying. )

7/Kang Chi's Loyalty.

I loved this scene. Everyone could see just how humble, loyal and honest Kang Chi is. I'm sure this will turn at his advantage somehow.

But, why did Yeo Ul father ask Gon Yi to keep an eye on kang Chi ? That's a mystery to me. I have some theories though :

a) he is suspecting him to be different.

b)He find him to be a possible husband for his daughter.

c) something else even the writers aren't quite sure of...

8/Last Scene and Cliffhanger.

This last scene had me shocked, and the worst thing was : I knew that Kang Chi was going to go and try to save the day, like he previously did. Only I also knew that going in the Inn at night would mean disobeying the monk, and face the dreadful things announced.

So, when he appeared, I was both glad and scared. And it happened. His father stepped between the blade and him, dying in his place. In his arms. I won't hide it, I was almost crying at that time. And LSG's acting was amazing, as always. Then, as I suspected, the change happened. The wind blowing, the monk coming the the Inn, Yeo Ul stopping her training, and suddenly, Kang Chi turns his head...and his voice ! his gumiho voice gave me the chills, as I couldn't stop looking at his bright green eyes.

This cliffhanger was great. Now I can't wait for episode 6.

Leave that girl alone !

This first episode successfully managed to introduce both the characters and the story. The least we can say is that this drama doesn't start slowly and promises us to be anything but boring. The cast is also well chosen and the music sounds fitting. Overall : a very good start.

Nice First Episode (no spoiler)

This episode was really good, I liked it.

In one episode you get :

I - The love triangle with promisingly good chemistry between both the Male/ Female Leads and Female Lead/Second male lead.

II - 2 Second Female Leads that are both funny and irritating, which is a good combination, I think. Not really useful to the story so far, and a bit clueless, but hopefully that will change soon.

III - What the story is going to be about - other than the romance - and a first suspect to chew on.

IV - One of the cutest, and funniest drunk scene in Kdramaland. Seriously I replayed that scene at least three times. Won't tell you what happens, but it sure was a good one, you'll see.

The acting is good, and the story seems fun. It's looks like we're gonna have some mystery without too much melodrama and so far the actors look good together.

Just, don't expect anything too serious. We all know that's not how a first class hotel would be managed. But it's still very fun to watch. I don't really think that all Kdramas are meant to be realistic (are any, really?), here I'd say it's pure entertainment. And I like a light, fun drama for a change.

My thought after watching this first episode was"This is going to be fun, easy to watch and interesting. When's the next episode airing ?" ^^

Go watch it !

Dreams in Dramaland are never useless !

True enough, I did say that the weird enlightening dream was an easy move in episode 3, but now that SHE has them too, this element is starting to get really interesting. And now that their are trying to know wheter what they saw was real or not (cf : the scar) it's even promising and exciting.

Now episode 4 left us with a weird cliffhanger, and episode 5 preview is making me curious .

What will happen next ?

Unexpected and Fun

One thing is for sure : the story doesn't drag for 5 episodes before getting into the subject : the characters are introduced (BTW great cast), the situation is there, we know what we're getting into and this sounds FUN. I mean really fun, and touching, and I love it.

So Fre*king Cute

I'm writing this little review to say that this episode was - in my opinion - the cutest episode of this entire drama (and I've seen episode 20), maybe even the cutest episode of all the dramas I've seen so far (all 120 of them).

Those moments with the couples, and the Peter Pan scene, were all genuinely cute, not full of forced aegyo like we often see in k-dramas, but filled with an actual, moving, touching, heart-melting cuteness that makes you feel like hugging all the characters.

I loved it.

No, Not again ! NOOOO !

So, now that everything is known by pretty much everybody, the writers had to think of some twist...

some...ORIGINAL...twist...

I saw Mi DO in the hospital and I thought :

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!

Not AMNESIA!!!!! Not again !

why ? please, why ???? T.T

Nice episode

This episode was really funny and sweet. The scene with the three sister in the president's office was just hilarious. His expressions were really priceless.

Also in this episode, the complicity between the two leads is building up slowly and nicely, which is great, since there is going to be 50 episodes like that. You also see that President Shin is slowly falling for her, since he is obviously upset about her one-sidely loving another man.

The only thing I don't really like in this drama is the so called "mystery" of the female lead birth. It's really not so original, and gives the impression the writers were fans of "You're Beautiful".

But the the two leads are acting so well, and their couple is having such a nice chemistry, that I tend to forgive all the flaws of this drama, and I only want to say this : I'm looking forward to seeing the next episode !

Lively, funny and adorable

I'm really pleased with this version of the manga. I remember how this development took several episode to the T-version, but I see here that taking all that time wasn't necessary.

Here you have everything from Naoki asking Kotoko to keep their new situation a secret, to the moment when the secret is revealed, without cutting out a single development. And it works !

It does not feel like it's going to fast, you don't get the impression parts of the story were cut off. What it does, on the other hand, is keeping a good rythm, so that each minute counts.

I have the impression that this drama won'be boring...not even for a second.

Overall : A very good episode.

A fresh start to a good manga

I hated the old J-version, I loved the T-version but found it too long and slow-paced, and to me the K-version was just pathetic. But this version is going to completely change my view of Itazura na kiss.

Everything is there, the writers didnot cut into anything essential. I don't really know how they managed to do that, but I'm quite admirative of what they did here.

Kotoko is stupid, but not so much that the viewer wants to slap her in the face. Naoki is cold, but not so much that you get the impression nothing is happening when he is in the room. The characters are both adorable and there is tension.

I'm looking forward to seeing the other episodes.

love it!

I really like the main couple in the drama and the acting word they live in. but the most touching part of it is how emotional and vulnerable Jun ho looks when he is around her he really looks like he is about to cry or melt. . .

Interesting, but dangerous

The story is still good, the relationship between the characters is slowly building itself up, and I can't wait to see what's going to happened to the main leads.

But I get the feeling that this kind of drama is dangerous. The storyline seems fragile and with the time-machine element I'm afraid that the writers can do pretty much anything they want with the plot.

I hope it won't turn out to be a total disappointement, but for now I'll just keep watching !

Because now it's still incredibly fun!!

A good first episode

This is the typical K-rom/com first episode. You get the general idea of the first-stage relationship between the characters and you got the story started. I like the plot but it's nothing too original so far.

One thing stand out : Jo Jung Suk. This actor really has a unique way to show his character's vulnerability within seconds, and it's both funny and adorable.

IU is also well chosen for the part, and I think the pair will work out just fine.

Overall : a promising start.

Prelude, Part 2/2

This episode is the following and ending of the prelude, which mean that the actual story is going to start at ep 3.

But this prelude was beautiful, really not the kind that makes you want to just skip it. It seems like an old fairytale (not the Disney kind, but the actual kind, with not so good endings and lots of emotions). It's done nicely, and pulled up my firt tear. I get the feeling it's not going to be the last one.

But I must say : This first couple was a very moving one. It will be challenging for the main couple to do better than that.

If it manages to stay at this high level of emotions and twists and to keep its rythm balance, this drama will soon become a must-watch.
