Not saying you should give this show a second chance but...you do realize that the Japanese occupied and colonized…
I don’t think we should excuse ignorance anymore in the day of technology and instant information at our fingertips. Yes, you are right we should not be angry and instead kindly approach the situation as an opportunity to learn. I am sure ppl have realized the implied Korean-Japanese antagonism, especially if you are an avid drama watcher, but never bothered to look into it. I am American and I was never taught about it and looked it up thanks to dramas. We should all know about atrocities caused by so many countries’ government. One does not need to be obsessed with history or world news to be an informed individual so we can hopefully move to a more peaceful world where the trampled on minorities or ones with less power have no voice and have their pains whitewashed away or just completely buried under a rug. Let’s understand other people and not just scroll endless socials like our governments hope we keep our head buried so we don’t see the mess around us.
THEY DON’T!! IMO they don’t. They run into each other’s arms at the very end. Still no discussion of what…
Yup. Anytime I dislike a character it is in no way directed at the actor (or else I would call them out by name). Ppl on MDL sometimes get offended that their faves are being dragged, but it’s really not that. It’s just a weak script with a dragging plot with few legitimate conflicts outside of a company’s struggle, no proper arcs with structured rising and falling actions, and a climax that was poorly executed. The all is lost moment felt contrived and then a messy resolution. Forget the poor character development with characters that ended up being hard to even like by the end.
I’m glad I could talk out my annoyance with someone on the same boat. I know some ppl like this drama and it’s good to know I’m not being picky or crazy. lol

yeah. I’m totally okay with no romance but when they try to work it in, especially when they made this story so dependent on it but left me feeling bad for the red flag dude because he was crazy over her (a little much and a little forceful) and she was ready to skip on him whenever things got a little difficult and weren’t going her way. Gawd. The more I think about it, the more I’m annoyed this was 40 whole eps long! 😂

she went to dentist for the wisdom tooth that she had the fever for couple of eps before. I think they needed her to let the swelling go down to do the surgery, but it was so rando. I just stopped caring. Also, SFL suddenly falls for SML just because he was actually the one that saved her and not Gao Yi. Just so much nonsensical development. 2x + ffwd wasn’t enough for me. If it’s not going to be romance loaded, that’s fine, but make things move along and have more arcs beyond the company business and legit character development. 🤦🏻♀️

American accents are pretty standard and understandable by any American, of course until you get to the deep root accents but then they make sure they cast accordingly. Asian languages are a whole different ballgame. Accent and intonation make the language. I am Asian and I speak the same language as my hubby but he sometimes has a hard time making out what I’m saying because my accent is different. There are also a few words here and there that are very region based - think slang words from different cities/regions - and I forget to adjust when I’m speaking fast. So they want to get the looks and acting from one actor and vocal precision from a different actor.
Also, it’s not so much that the directors don’t like an actor’s voice, but that dubbing for dialect is such a common place in China that has over 300 languages and dialects spoken that if a director feels the actor is not delivering the dialogue properly in Mandarin (the official language), they just have a professional voiceover actor do it. So ppl like my hubby who speak the official language of the country aren’t left confused 😒😂

BTW. Hubby works in the film industry. He said it happens in EVERY SINGLE movie and TV show in the US. It’s called ADR - Additional Dialogue Replacement. He literally just said to note, “how do you think everything sounds super clear, accurate and perfect in American movies?” He said there are shots that are the “perfect” take but a plane flew over. Other such technical reasons could be because an actor was not wired correctly. It could also be a scene that the director wants to do a cut away and add in dialogue from a different actor to clarify something. ADR is also required when an actor mumbles or stumbles through his line. American Actors aren’t perfect and there’s a push to wrap scenes and move the project along. You don’t know what you have until you are in the cutting room floor.

The ONLY reason she even “forgave” him or searched for him is because he once again caved into doing things her way. He bought and gifted her the company. Placed company in a really nice business area. Bought her fancy car back and fixed up her precious shoes…All this before he ran away into hiding for x amount of time.
this drama primary focuses on the business and there is literally a new problem every other (almost every) ep with the business. It was just so long winded with 40 eps. The big crisis finally hits at ep 33 and then it just felt like that business we were centering everything around is abandoned and it’s all over the place as they rush to tie up all the lose ends. DO NOT watch this for romance. FL takes forever to actually act on her feelings while ML chases her around like a puppy and at the same time like a red flag narcissist. It was cute while they were together for a FEW eps, but then I realized the FL only liked him when she realized how MUCH he had helped her and at the moment she saw trouble, she ran away. HORRIBLE communication skills. When do they resolve all their issues? See spoiler.
I tried to have sympathy for her because of her parasitic mother, but you are correct! I don’t buy that she doesn’t realize the dude is obviously in love with her. she just treats it like he is being a “brother” so she can keep him around as a doormat. Def got it from her mom. She creates non-existent conflict with FL when all we have seen from FL is she was living her life. If SFL doesn’t like her, then just have a nice conversation, why get mad and lecture like FL is a child? It has been so frustrating to watch her
gawd, I DISLIKE zhaoyang’s mother like no other drama mother. that annoying cutesy voice and her selfishness!! I literally have to forward her scenes so I don’t throw my phone at the wall!
just want to set my expectations correctly- is this a slow burn where the romance is second seat a lot of business…
😂I see that you very much enjoyed this drama and are passionate about it. I don’t need fluffy rom-com drama or drama completely about romance. Although, I don’t like it when it gets forgotten and tossed aside but comes up randomly or as after thought. I loved Lighter & Princess so if it’s in that realm of romance, completely fine by me. I can def see the like-hate relationship up to ep 12 and I can tell from the setup that they’ll mature and grow as individuals and as a pair. Thank you for your time and the thoughtful (extensive 😆) response.
Just wrapped watching it a second time after a year gap - I BINGED non-stop....❤️🔥It was EVEN better…
just want to set my expectations correctly- is this a slow burn where the romance is second seat a lot of business plotline? Seems so. With 40 eps, I can’t imagine how long they will go on this plot of her trying to revive this business 😱 Also, do you recall what ep they get together 😅TIA
