Let me reiterate what Mephisto meant. The way they want to make a story of "empowering women" in a "male dominated society", is not through their own women power of facing equally with men but by dumbing the men in order to let the women win. In order words, it's degrading to women too since it's not their wit that makes them win, it's the men who allows it. The writing is not creative enough and the writers thinking that women is winning when men is losing. That's a black and white mentality is actually oppressed thinking.

your "quality" evaluation is different from them. their "high quality" refers to business transaction that can be achieved outside the drama and before filming started. this type of drama hardly attract many investors because the returns usually low. so the salary offer definitely not high, in other words, pay cut. if pay cut, portion received by agency also low. also the casts in this dramas did not belong to the "high echelon of the industry".

because drama like this won't bring massive profit like costume romance dramas. so they think it's a waste of money spent to promote because niche drama won't get popular. also this is small production so kinda low quality project, so no chance for resource exchange.

After watching Ep. 11, 12, 13; this is my take so far: 1. Chen's family relationship functions logically but not emotionally. All of them including the grandpa is very sharp and intelligent. But they rarely discuss their feeling, it usually ends with outburst and 1 side will give up and buried. 2. All of them love Songge and treat her as family, they want to help her with the treatment but the dad wants to control everything under the roof and he acted on impulse, never really think out the plan and lay it to the family. He sidelines everyone and have it his way. 3. Chen Hui's desire to earn money for Songge is not solely because of his love for her, it's to help lessen his parents' burden to cover Songge's expenses too. 4. I think Songge was raised with full love emotionally from Gao Ying's parents so in the Chen's family, she's the only one who can empathized with their feeling. You could see how they resolve conflict in their business, Chen Hui is the one with strategy, Songge doing the emotional part - see how she talked out Xin Yu. 5. I just want to praise the foreshadowing plot in the earlier plot where grandpa took off his hearing aid when Chen Hui's parents started to fight, this led to the explanation of the plot where he wore back the hearing aid and listen to Chen Hui's phone conversation. Grandpa might be deaf but he's not dumb and just another family member there. I think he knew what's going on.

After watching ep9, I think Chen Hui didn't really know or feel their love. Maybe both of them were busy working. I think Chen Hui is much closer to his grandpa than his parents. After seeing his father closely taking care of him then he feels he overlook something about both of them.
