I'd say the dynamic change happens in ep 13, but the makers of the show only felt bold enough to pull through for the viewers at a later episode, to lessen the risk of the show being cancelled. It's not the writings fault, more China's governments fault...

Oh I'm definitely not trying to close off GLs from others. I just misread it as someone who was trying to separate GLs as a genre from romance
