What An Utter Disappointment!!
I have lost count of the number of times either of these two men got thrashed and still survived! This show started with a punch, a group of Olympic athletes; once famous, but now fallen from grace. Each of them left their dreams behind for a certain reason and joined the police force to earn a steady income or to work for the people. The only problem is that no one takes them seriously, since they are special recruits. Also, the police force is mostly headed by shady & questionable individuals who are obviously in cohorts with our delightful villain who refuses to die, no matter how hard everyone tries. He is like an unconquered factor who keeps raising from the ashes, phoenix or not? Starring Park Bo Gum, Kim So Hyun, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae, Tae Won Seok as the main leads, the show had a promising storyline; but too much violence & gore took away the meaningful impact, leaving behind a lackluster show that was disappointing!

A Disappointment All Over!!!
This is one of those shows that comes & goes without making much impression!I’m not saying it is boring, it had its own perks. This project was likely written as an attempt to boast main lead Ha Yu Jun’s popularity before he makes his debut as the lead vocalist of the newly formed band, AxMxP in 2025. It is actually surprising because I have never heard of a pop idol being cast in the main lead even before he makes his debut. So, the show revolves and rotates around Ha Yu Jun’s Sa Gye, his struggles and his efforts to seek justice for an incident that actually doesn’t involve him. Must say, that Sa Gye is quite righteous and even after his downfall, he still has the courage and guts to bring down a music empire. The storytelling is crisp in some places but lags in some other places; mostly the main issue gets dragged too much. There isn’t much substantial storyline left to gleam over for almost 10 episodes; so you keep wondering why we are watching the same thing every week.

Added to the list of "My Favorite Watch"
Some shows leave you devastated because they are too short!“The Potato Lab” was one such show for me; the quirky friendships, office buddies, cold-hearted male lead turning into a softie and the very violent female lead who is actually too kindhearted for her own good. This show had everything that I loved. At the center of this potboiler was the self-sufficient Kim Mi Jyung, she is a hardworking researcher, almost like a “Jill of all Trades”; the potato lab won’t work without her. Although she was never trained to be a researcher, her dedication towards breeding new potato varieties will win your heart; because it isn’t easy for someone from a non-science background to become a researcher. Our male lead, So Baek Ho is the perfect anarchist. He is blunt, only concerned with his own business and only speaks numbers; that is until his world collides with Mi Kyung’s, and he discovers a new neighborhood where the villagers are warmhearted and caring. The narrative literally hinges on their odd dynamics, Mi Kyung’s presence softens Baek Ho’s cold heart and his strength makes her braver. A perfect balance indeed!

My Favorite Fantasy CDrama this Year!!!
The show has ended and I still haven’t gotten over the wild vibes!Guo Jing Ming’s directorial always have a set tapestry- the characters are as queer as they can and the cinematography is at another level. With sumptuous locales and luxurious settings, he always commands stories that will take up every minute of your existence. His characters are so endearing, that you wish to join them on their journeys. It could be a 34000 years old Great Demon, who is both hilarious and flirtatious, a proficient Demon Hunter from an illustrious family line, reserved and highly disciplined, a Goddess from the Wilderness, who is sweet, frail yet courageous, an erstwhile Commander of the Martial Camp whose only concern is protecting the said Goddess, a childlike physician who loves to scream and a Mountain God who loves to cook. The similarity between them- they all love each other and are a huge family. The storyline wraps these characters tightly into a bond that is unbreakable and unbelievably strong.

Thriller Family Melodrama at its Best
Two mothers with different agendas and priorities!MBC’s “Bitter Sweet Hell” pulls off hijinks in the most egregious manner possible; it can be considered as a journey of maternal love but from two different perspectives. While Hong Sa Kang keeps a tight rein on her only son, Dr. Choi Jae Jin; No Yeong Won gives her son, Do Hyun the breathing space he needs. Both love their sons but in different ways and this familial love becomes the cruz of this family melodrama. Starring a ginormous casting like Kim Hee Sun, Lee Hye Young, Kim Nam Hee, Yeonwoo; the show portrays complicated family relationships in the most realistic way possible. At the epicenter of this show is the terse, strained relationship between a sharp mother-in-law and her smart daughter-in-law, who have been at loggerheads forever. Their dynamics start to change when a psychopath decides to destroy the familial ties. Decidedly, there is nothing new in the script but the show keeps you on your toes. The thrill factor could be attributed to the unrestrained antagonist, Lee Se Na, who plays the “Devil’s Reincarnate”, judging the entire family and handing out punishments.

One of my Favorites in 2024, Surprisingly Impressive
There are very few dramas that actually hold your attention until the very end; I’m the kind of person who mostly fast forwards through the penultimate episodes because I can’t stand the angst or melodrama. I rarely did that with this show, enjoying each and every moment. I grew fond of the characters; it could be the sides or the mains. Adapted from the manhua “Wu Geng Ji” (武庚纪) by Zheng Jian He (郑健和) and Deng Zhi Hui (邓志辉), “Burning Flames” is a dystopian story with the MC seeking justice for the wrongs inflicted by the Immortal realm on the humans and the demons. It was peculiar that the antagonists in this show were actually Immortals who are supposed to protect the common people. From start to end, there wasn’t a dull moment as Wu Geng led the fight against the all powerful immortal while growing mature as an individual. Ren Jia Lun excels in his portrayal of Wu Geng/A Gou. Both are obviously varied personalities, and yet he embodies them effortlessly. Joining this ensemble casting are Xing Fei (Bai Cai), Zhu Xu Dan (Lan), Yan Yi Kuan (Zi Yu) and Zhu Zheng Ting (Ni Tian Er Xing), each of whom make valuable contributions to his arduous journey. There was character development for each of them and some more!Read the complete article here-

A Cliche Romance That Couldn't be Worst!!
I expected a masterpiece but was treated to mediocrity! The reason to start this show was that I absolutely loved Jung So Min in “Alchemy of Souls” & “Love Next Door”. The variability in her choices is exciting, and I was hoping this would be a follow-up. Sadly, the show starts off with a strong premise & interesting characters, but the later half nosedives into obscurity. What started as an interesting romance between star crossed lovers turns into a story with no character growth; the worst part being that the lead couple had zero chemistry. I was more disappointed by their lack of chemistry than the convoluted plot, because Jung So Min is known to have a phenomenal rapport with her co-stars. The supporting characters were annoying, even the antagonists were a major let down. Waiting for the show to end became a weekly respite!

My Favorite Actors in an Intricate Storyline
What happens when a batshit crazy tyrant Joseon King who is also a strict gourmet meets a genius chef from the future? It’s mayhem and chaos but in a comic way. tvN’ s “Bon Appetit, Your Majesty” sets the tone for this rambunctious affair from the first episode itself. Award winning chef Yeon Ji Yeong is suddenly thrust into the Joseon era by a mind-boggling time travel transition when she reads the contents of an ancient book, that her father borrowed from his historian friend. There she meets the utterly handsome yet ruthless King Yi Heon. Their first meeting is equal parts hilarious & shocking because it takes a long time before Ji Yeong accepts the fact that she is in the Joseon era. Add to the fact, that she behaves rudely with Yi Heon without knowing his true identity, we have a disaster in making. The show is as flavorful as the dishes that Ji Yeong prepares after she is forcefully appointed as the Chief Royal Cook. Both of our leads butt heads, have abundant arguments while sharing tasty food that is catered to Yi Heon’s picky taste buds.

The Cute Baby & His Family Were Cute, Ex-Boyfriend Not So Much!!
The cutest baby ever bought a family together!!!The first thing that you notice while watching this show is Seon Woo Joo. He is the cutest little baby to exist in existence. It would be nice if the entire show revolved around him and his adoptive parents, aka aunt & uncle. However, the story nudges an unwarranted third angle to add unnecessary drama to the script, and it turns a potboiler into collateral damage. Both protagonists have their own personal issues and struggles to overcome. While Seon Tae Hyeong has to deal with his childhood issue of abandonment, Woo Hyeon Jin feels hapless dealing with her unemployed status. In the middle of this predicament, they are forced into a situation where they have to co-parent their nephew. Hyeon Jin doesn’t mind becoming his guardian, but Tae Hyeong has always led a solitary life, and he finds it difficult to acclimatize to this new situation. This is their story, how they form a family unit while trying to become Woo Joo’s real parents.

An Exquisite Experience With Weirdly Endearing Characters!!
What happens when a royal nemesis from the past collides with a villain from the present? This was my first time watching Heo Nam Jun play a positive role, also my first time watching Im Ji Yeon. I was quite unsure of their chemistry, or how the story would shape up, given the fact that they both play characters who give off weird antagonist vibes. Who would think that a legendary villainess from the past would be paired opposite a bratty heir. Im Ji Yeon embodies the very soul of Kang Dam Sim, the First Ranked Royal Consort who was unfairly executed by poison. In her dying moments, her soul is transported to the future with the help of her loyal shaman. Landing in the 21st century, she creates chaos when she has an unexpected encounter with Cha Se Gye, an equally arrogant and cold-hearted chaebol. Instead of acting shocked, she thanks the heavens for a new chance at life and adapts to this new situation where she decides that Cha Se Gye will be her new backer. Poor Se Gye has no choice but to follow the will of this crazy woman who turns his life upside down.

One of the Best Costume Dramas in a Long Time!!
It’s always nice to watch a drama with a fierce matrilineal theme!“Glory” doesn’t shy away from portraying its women in a courageous manner, as against men who are expected to be docile and submissive. What happens when a fierce tigress meets a fox? Their worlds collide as they adjust to each other and build a world together. Starring Gulnezer Bextiyar & Hou Ming Hao as the main leads, it is only right to say that the show belongs to Gulnezer. Her “Rong Shanbao” is daring, perspective, intelligent, bold and a staunch feminist. In an era of patriarchal society, women from the Rong family rule the city of Linji. They have been leading the tea farms in the mountains, are rich and run a business that grants them incomparable power and wealth. The storyline is crisp, gripping and addictive. If you are into shows with strong female portrayals, then this one should be high on your watchlist!!!

I loved watching Byeon Mu Jin's hijinks to win over his family!
The mystery has been solved, and we now know how Byeon Mu Jin became rich! Many might think that the answer to this question is the premise to this storyline, sadly it isn’t. The show focuses on the changing times and its direct or indirect effect on familial ties. Although the show is hugely centered around Byeon Mu Jin’s attempts to reconcile with his family, “Romance in the House” is not just a love story. Its atypical melodrama that revolves around a father-daughter’s estranged relationship. The drama tries to reconnect a disjointed family who were separated because of unlikely circumstances. That doesn’t mean, they start living together; the Byeon family exists as individual units as they find their own “Happily Ever After”. The show seemed to hint at the precursor that families don’t always need to stay close; they can exist individually, as each of them seek their own happiness.

Loved the Beginning, the Ending Not So Much
This show ended in a hasty manner and I didn’t even realise that it was over!Starring Son Hyun Joo, Kim Myung Min, Kim Do Hoon & Heo Nam Jun in lead roles, the show was a fast paced thriller. The storyline remained focused on the father-and-son dynamics, with the antagonist pair struggling against the just ones. We can’t exactly call them just, because Song Pan Ho (Son Hyun Joo) and Song Ho Yeong (Kim Do Hoon) both resorted to nefarious plans, for their own benefits. The show was characterized by uncalled violence, a typical revenge saga throughout. While I’m not condoning their acts, at one point of time; it becomes difficult to differentiate between the protagonists and antagonists; because both engage in schemes that inevitably lead to several deaths. It was both painful and heartbreaking watching them each wage an unnecessary war where no one wins.

An Endearing but Slow Paced Romance
This was simply a comfort show that made my midweek bearable!I wasn’t anticipating a great story line from this show, when I first started with it. So, we can’t say, it rescinds on its promise of delivering a phenomenal romance. Somewhere down the line, the show does turn cliche and harbors every overused trope in the book with unwarranted twists & turns. And despite these odd nothings, I did enjoy the show nevertheless. I guess different people have varied tastes and some may beg to differ. This show strongly focuses on familial love, it could be found family or struggling with your real family dynamics. Handling family affairs can be tiring, but that doesn’t mean you don’t love them. The show is a chaotic mess with haywire characters; you can’t hate them nor love them endlessly!
