The Biggest Disappointment of this Year
This is one of those shows that had a strong start, but quickly deteriorates into a disaster of epic proportions. Starring Lee Ji Ah and Kang Ki Young in the lead roles, “Queen of Divorce” was supposed to be a fantastic tale about a badass female lead, who is a divorce fixer. Only, it turns into a mediocre drama that depicts the same old daughter-in-law and mother-in-law rivalry, while the husband/son is caught unaware between the two (plotting/scheming on his own). While the cases they took initially did seem intriguing, the show quickly devolves into family melodrama and nothing gets past it. Lee Ji Ah tries her best to deliver a commendable performance as a wronged woman who is out for revenge. Her candor and dialogue delivery are perfect, only the role isn’t meant for her. She deserves a better role than someone who probably left her lover to get married to a rich guy (who is a good-for-nothing). As for Kang Ki Young, this was his moment to shine. After playing an antagonist in “Uncanny Counter Season 2”, this was his big break. Unfortunately, the show doesn’t do any justice to his acting skills; I just felt he was better off playing the villain. Let’s get down to reviewing this show in detail!Read the complete article here-

One of the Most Entertaining Watch in 2025!
Have you ever watched a show that grabs your attention from the get-go and the fixation gets real with each passing episode!Because that’s how I felt with “Head over Heels”. Frankly, I need to accept that I’m not a huge fan of the main lead, Choo Young Woo. But I was kind of surprised with his act in “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call”. Also, this is first major breakthrough, so I was also curious about his acting abilities as a main lead. Shockingly enough, Choo Young Woo proves his caliber by easily breezing through his portrayals of two different characters. The wavelength, personalities and even the diction is absolutely perfect. As for the female lead, Cho Yi Hyun, she embodies the old age wisdom and charm that is unheard-of before when we are referring to shamans. She is sweet, caring, kind and friendly. The storyline also has an atypical love triangle, which is equal parts endearing and adorable. The main leads tie into an riveting romance, unrequited or not; I loved watching them together!

A Romance Between a Quirky Princess and her Evil Husband
I went into this drama with zero expectations. I was suffering from a drought of good Chinese dramas and decided to pick this one on a wimp. I’m so glad that I did, because the storyline is engaging, the ML is a handsome hedgehog who looks eternally scary but is a gentle marshmallow; the supporting cast is equally engaging. Well, you might be wondering why I haven’t talked about the FL, because it’s obvious from the synopsis that this show is related to the female protagonist’s transmigration. I won’t necessarily call Hua Qing Ge a strong character; but she is street smart and is making the most of a situation she is trapped in. Kudos to the costume department for dressing the male lead, Ding Ze Ren in the most resplendent costumes that I have ever seen in a Chinese drama; it just adds a chilly aura to his coldhearted personality. The settings are equally grand and it makes for an entertaining watch!Read the complete article here-

The Worst Show of 2024, So Far
A hyped revenge saga that was bound to be good? Right?I was so wrong when I wrote the First Impressions for this show. Starring Xu Lu, Wei Zhe Ming in lead roles, the drama was meant to fill the wide gap left behind after "White Cat Legend" & "In Blossom" finished airing. I was like "here's a good drama with a stellar casting, don't mind the mediocre settings". I really hoped that this show would be as good as the premise; unfortunately "Lady Revenger Returns from the Fire” became a stable foible of bad storytelling and wasted potential. While the show does try its best to draw intrigue with murder mysteries and encore suspense, it fails. The script is all over the place, the main protagonists though daring don't know what they are doing half of the time and the antagonists are plain stupid. Didn't make for an easy watch. So, why did I persevere to watch this horrible show? Read to find out why exactly!

One of the Most Phenomenal Crime Thrillers This Year!!
What happens when a serial killer is idolized by another one? What happens when the said serial killer has experienced a mental trauma which set her on that path? What happens when the said killer’s son endeavors to become a straight laced police officer? From the pilot episodes itself, I questioned Jung I Sin’s intentions. Go Hyun Jung’s has a fabulous presence, while her younger version presents herself as a beautiful killer, the older version is haggard yet dangerously alluring. You are pulled into Jung I Sin’s world, even if you don’t want to be. The bloodthirst is viable, there is no pretense about the fact that she willingly killed five men who were either abusive to women or children. She punished the despicable, but like her son Cha Su Yeol often decrees, she had no right to. But to the women or children whom she released from a lifetime of pain & despair, she is no less than a Goddess. Our copycat killer, Ah Ra feels the same about her, to the point that she transitions from being a male to female. She entirely reinvents herself and models her life following into Jung I Sin’s footsteps. The only glitch being that Ah Ra is also secretly in love with I Sin. “Queen Mantis” is indeed about the Queen, Go Hyun Jung lives & breaths life into a character that is morally inept yet intriguing.

My Favorite Action Thriller Ever
How could someone so bad at studying can be so persistent and good at protecting his people! The first thing that grabs your attention is Hwang Min Hyun’s bespectacled look; you might mistake him for a nerd. Only he is anything but that; quite proficient in martial arts, Yun Ga Min’s major shortfall is his inability to achieve good score. It’s not that he doesn’t try, everytime he gives it his absolute best and yet his marks won’t improve. Born to a genius father, Yun Ga Min has spent his entire lifetime standing in shadows. Even though his mother understands the same and doesn’t force him to study hard, Yun Ga Min finds it unacceptable that his hard efforts aren’t bearing any good outcome. With the single-minded goal of improving his scores to enter a college, Yun Ga Min joins Yusung Technical High School, the highest rated school in his city. Only the school is full of ragged thugs and bullies who follow Pi Han Ul, who is the top scorer and also a mafia lord’s son. What transpires is a tricky tale of achieving his end goals as Yun Ga Min forms a study group, so students could actually STUDY!

One of the Best Wuxia Comic Series in 2024!!
There are very few shows that actually manage to hold your attention until the very end, no less a melodrama with over-the-top & loud characters! It wouldn’t be wrong to say that “Guardians of Dafeng” was all about Dylan Wang; rightly so, because he is the titular lead. From being an overworked office worker, Yang Ling; he transforms into the powerful, albeit melodramatic yet righteous Guardian of Dafeng, Xu Qi An. The protagonist’s investigative skills make him invaluable to the “Astronomical Bureau”, “The Guardian Yamen” & “Yunlu Academy”; head honchos at all three places keep fighting each other to make him join their side. Add to this mixture, a jaded Emperor who doesn’t know what to do with Xu Qi An, and we have a healthy potboiler. Starting from the main lead, to his endearing family to the dumb yet sweet Princess who ends up for falling for him, the show is entertaining and intriguing. There was never a dull as different cases are added and Xu Qian’s acumen is tested. Though he might seem money minded, over the course of time, Xu Qi An realised and accepts the weight of the responsibilities that lie with his powers. While his childish side was adorable, Xu Qi An’s mature side was subdued and resilient.

One of My Favorite Historicals This Year!!
Some stories grow on you because their characters are simply riveting!I wasn’t expecting to be enthralled by the characters but everything from the storytelling to the casting was phenomenal. It’s been too long since I was this immersed in a costume historical. Starring Meng Zi Yi, Li Yun Rui in lead roles, the story is a transmigration romance with the female protagonist remembering bits & pieces of her past life while the male lead remains unaware of the same. Though they were romantically connected in their past life, Dou Zhou and Song Mo are destined to be together. This was also my first time watching a pairing that compliment each other so well. Unlike most female leads, Dou Zhou isn’t a damsel in distress. She doesn’t need saving, she solves most problems and has the business acumen that matches her intellect. Song Mo might seem all brawns, but he can easily detect lies. Both protagonists have their own strengths and together they are invincible.

The Most Exciting Watch of 2024
I followed this show as religiously as I did with “The Blood of Youth”.Every time I saw characters from the sequel, it seemed to draw me back to the time when the protagonists from the prequel paraded as the older generation, wise and more experienced. So, watching their naive, inexperienced selves was endearing. Celebrated as the Liquor Deity of Xueyue City, the show focuses on Baili Dongjun’s journey from the wayward grandson of the Marquis of Zhenxi to becoming the First City Lord of Xueyue City. Joining him on this sojourn is the dreaded villain of all times, Ye Dingzhi. The show focuses on their decades long friendship and even though, Baili Dongjun stops his descent into demonhood, it doesn’t affect their brotherhood. There are other characters from the sequel whose backstory is explained, like Yi Wenjun, who is Wuxin & Prince Xiao Yu’s mother. There might be many who would wondered why she is confined to her palace in the later years, this show explains the very reason of her lifelong confinement. The detailing is as particular as the sequel, so there is never a dull moment!

A Woman's Struggle Against Mental Illness
This is one those of those dramas that could be a “Hit or Miss” phenomenon. There are very few shows that are daring enough to depict main characters with mental disorders. If you have watched this show, Seo Jae Won expresses her life long suffering and anguish in the penultimate episode, while openly challenging the societal mindset and prejudice. As she rightly points out, the disorder itself causes pain to the patient and their family, to be discriminated by the society is ever more agonizing. The scriptwriter indeed hit the nail with this point; patients suffering from mental disorders are the same as others, they have every right to lead a normal life while getting their treatment. There is nothing to be ashamed about, and they should not be prejudiced, the trauma only worsens their situation. As always, Jang Na Ra does a fantastic job portraying the main character’s struggles. Let’s take a moment to talk about Seo Jae Won and her relationships, as the show revolves around them!Read the complete article here-

The Best Fantasy Drama in a Long Time
Adapted from the web comic “Under One Person” (一人之下) by Mi Er (米二), YouKu’s latest fantasy drama “I Am Nobody” is a robust mix of intrigue, mystique, suspense and comedy. YouKu dropped the first four episodes unceremoniously on 4th August, 2023. Ironically, the next day, it was announced that the show has been suspended until further notice. After a month long delay, “I Am Nobody” resumed broadcast on 6th September, 2023. In the midst of all this drama, I really didn’t get the time to watch this show. I wasn’t enthusiastic about it and when I checked the first few minutes of the pilot episode, the show seemed mediocre. Despite that, suspending my disbelief, I decided to watch this show one more time, and this is what I learned- if you could get past the first few minutes of the zombie nonsensical action, then “I Am Nobody” is definitely your time. The show chronicles the main lead Zhang Chulan’s (Peng Yu Chang) journey as his life is toppled upside down when the said zombies steal his dead Grandfather’s body from his grave. Met with unusual circumstances in the “Outsider” world and haunted by a villainous group “Sinister Pleasure”, Chulan is forced to seek refuge with NDT Express (the official organization whose job is to punish evil Outsiders). Along the way, he is tutored by Feng Baobao (Wang Ying Lu), as he gets acquainted with other powerful Outsiders like Wang Ye (Neo Hou), Zhang Ling Yu (Bi Wen Jun) and Zhu Ge Qing (Julio Wan Yan).Read the complete article here-

One of my Favorite Stories in 2026!!
From a bewildering soldier to masterchef!!Obviously, the first reason to watch this show is Park Ji Hoon. After watching his recent hit movie “The King’s Warden”, I was expecting great things from this show, and it didn’t disappoint. The storyline turns a simple cooking challenge into a herculean show of character development. The story is largely based on an underrated Ganglim Base, where the army food is of abysmal quality. While the soldiers are suffering, Private Kang Seong Jae arrives as their messiah. He arrives in a twilight zone, recovering from the shock of losing his father. His superiors label him as a lost cause, until he is pulled into a simulation game- “The Chef’s Path”. The game is exclusive only to the Ganglim base and only visible to Kang Seong Jae. As he completes one challenge after another, his abilities are further enhanced. From being a rookie chef who has never entered the kitchen before, he slowly turns into a magnificent cook.

A Family Entertainer With A Touch of Comedy!!
Ji Sung never fails to deliver a hit, and we have another entertainer on our hands!!Found family concept runs deep throughout this show, and I’m not just talking about the main unit, but the bonds they form with their neighbors. While the story starts as a random scam conducted by ex-gangsters, it quickly dives into important issues like seeking justice for mismanagement & correcting the wrongs committed by them. The main family first acts as a decoy. They are fake, but as time passes by, they grow closer and their relationship turns transactional to real. The family is chaotic, messy and yet, they stay strong throughout all ordeals. This was my first time watching Ha Yoon Kyoung & she is as good as Ji Sung, the comic delivery is on point and she matches his strength. The show drags a bit in the penultimate episodes, but the finale is satisfactory.

A Heartwarming Entertaining With Sweet Characters!!
“Phantom Lawyer” doesn’t offer a horror comedy suspended by logic, it is just a lighthearted entertainer!!The story is centered around a kindhearted yet eccentric attorney, Sin I Rang. He is unwaveringly kind, naive yet has a strong sense of justice. Unfortunately, his budding career is stained by his late father’s bad reputation, leading him to opened his own practice. The only glitch being that he unknowingly open his new office in a former shaman’s house. The walls are stuck with odd talismans and each time, one of them falls down, Sin I Rang is stuck with a new ghost. Unaware of their name and origin, the ghosts hang around Sin I Rang until he figures out their identity and seeks justice for them. The story holds ground most of the time, but the odd pacing literally outweighs Sin I Rang’s gullible nature at times. Even his family is as kindhearted as him, openly adapting & welcoming the incoming horde of ghosts. Throw in some unwarranted romance with rival turned love interest, Han Na Hyeon, and we have a potboiler ready!!
