Your view's narrow. You pretend you're cool and modern but can't suppress your lack of perspective. Let the marketplace…
Thank you for your inciteful, well argued, and thoroughly considered reply to my suggestion. I'm particularly interested in your interpretation of MY view being narrow, which is 'let people choose for themselves who and what they want to watch'. I've inferred from your comment that you're in the 'I don't approve, so no-one else should be allowed to' camp which, of course, isn't narrow-minded at all.
Here's an idea. Why not release both versions? Those Koreans who have a 'Holier Than Thou' attitude (and who, in private, likely do MUCH worse things than the people they vilify) can choose to watch the edited version, whilst the ones who choose to live in the 21st century - and the rest of the world - get to see this as it was meant to be, without the petty interference. It would be interesting to see which gets the higher ratings. Let the marketplace drive what does and does not happen, as it does in most capitalist societies.
Controversial opinion - i actually didn't like it much. It was chaotic, lots of things unexplained, lots of uneccessary…
Hard to disagree, though it was good to watch something that wasn't PURELY about BL but had a strong(ish) plot line about something else at the same time. I really do wish, though, that these production companies would employ someone with a little bit of intelligence and/or common sense to ask questions like "...er...why...?" and "er...how does that work then?"
Example: I would dearly love to know how the Grandmas can be watching the news on TV and being told that the protagonist has gone to prison and lots of other people too, then moments later our heroes turn up wearing the same clothes and having the same marks they had while they were making the arrest. Is justice in Thailand really that quick, or was it a very, very, long walk back from the drugs hideout? (Didn't seem to take them all that long to GET there!)
i feel like the whole show wasn't trying to give reason to why he committed suicide (even though they used some…
Yeah, OK, I suppose I'd have to concede that actually. But considering how many dramas they make each year, shouldn't they be fairly good at it by now? The debate here suggests otherwise.
It's neither. It's a single Kdrama with four episodes released in one go, a break for Christmas, then the second four released. Other listing sites (e.g. IMDB) list it as one complete thing.
i feel like the whole show wasn't trying to give reason to why he committed suicide (even though they used some…
To be honest, I think this show was about providing viewers with a very entertaining piece of fiction. Not everything has to preach a moral element, yet many here are trying to ascribe it one. Does anyone here really feel the primary intent of / reason for making the show was to make anyone who feels suicidal think again?
I'm absolutely hooked with each and everything that has made each of the characters. Season 2 is what? the first…
Yeah ... it's all one story released in two chunks with a three week gap in between. It's likely only here on MDL that someone decided there was a part one and a part two. IMDB and TVING list it as just one show (correctly, IMHO).
Just watched her in 'Death's Game' and it may seem a weird thing to say, but part of her brilliance seems to be that she doesn't stand out ... at least, when she's not supposed to. So many actors make you stop and think about "the actor" but she just got everything so right all the time she was always just "Yi Jae’s mum". It was only in the last episode, when she became much more central to the story, that I realised how incredible she'd been throughout! Thoroughly enjoyed her performance, and hope to see her demonstrating just how good she is again soon.
EDIT: Ooooh. Just reread her credits and realised she was the hacker in 'Healer'. Wondered why I had this nagging feeling I'd seen her before whenever she came on screen in 'Death's Game'. Well, just shows how good she is. Totally convincing (and probably my favourite character) in that too. She WAS the hacker, and she WAS Yi Jae's mum, so totally it took seeing it here to realise it was actually the same person.
anyone know who is the actor that played the partner of the police officer i would like to know who it is but…
So I wasn't the only one wondering that! Seemed a little odd that he got no credit on either MDL or IMDB, whilst "lesser" actors did. (I mean 'lesser' in plot prominence / screen time, not skill or meant as a slur on those other fine people!)
OK. First, I want to take back all the negative thoughts I had around eps.5 and 6 that this was becoming a bit formulaic and predictable.
Second, isn't Kim Mi Kyung (Yi Jae’s mum) an incredible actress? I mean, there she was, being so brilliant in every episode you almost didn't notice her. She played the role so well, and it felt so right and natural, it just didn't call any undue attention. I'm glad she got moved to front and centre in the last episode. It was pure pleasure to watch her demonstrate her mastery of her craft.
And the rest of the cast? Kind of a "Who's Who" of who's on top of their game at the moment. Don't particularly like this well-known star? Don't worry. Someone else just as good will be along in a minute.
So I was just wondering what made you add Luo Yunxi to this list...For me, before considering him as good looking,…
Many of the people on this list I didn't add myself. They were added by other voters.
This list is specifically for people like Luo Yunxi. I've not seen him in anything myself (though I have "Immortality" on my 'Plan to Watch' list when it's released). From what you say about him, it's likely he's a really good actor. I'd also bet, though, he's not (high) on the many "Best Actor" lists on MDL. That's because most people seem to vote for the same old people, almost regardless of what the list is supposed to be about, and where a list purports to be "Best Actor", many of the people on them are not particularly brilliant in terms of acting skill. They're there because they're pretty and have lots of fans (for that reason). This list is for people who aren't necessarily perfect looking (though Luo Yunxi does pretty well on that count too), but ARE good actors. ACTING good is more important here than LOOKING good.
Anyone can add anyone they want to vote for, so long as that person isn't in the top ten on other lists. Sure, this means there are some really talented actors, also cursed with being extremely good-looking, who end up disqualified in this vote ... but they're already shining elsewhere.
I get the feeling I've started to ramble, but hopefully I've managed to explain the purpose of this list well enough.
Whilst I'm generally fairly anti Netflix for how they're trying to change the established formula for Kdramas…
Absolutely agree. I'm a binge watcher, and love the fact I can watch the whole story unfold and conclude in one limited run. Netflix trying to force the 'second season' mentality on Kdramas infuriates me. Combined with the "Will they? Won't they?" dilemma caused by shows announcing a second season but never saying when (e.g. 'Hell Hound', 'Extraordinary Attorney...', 'Weak Hero...', etc.), it's getting more and more likely I'll snap, and throw my computer out of the window!
Why make part 1 with only 4 episodes. Netflix mania on kdramas
Whilst I'm generally fairly anti Netflix for how they're trying to change the established formula for Kdramas (e.g. trying to extend them into multiple seasons, as happens in the West), in this particular case "Part 2" is airing just three weeks later ... and the gap is one that is frequently employed by many dramas to make room for seasonal shows and specials.
Look this show up on IMDB. It lists it as having eight episodes. The same goes, I think, on TVING (can't be 100% sure as I can't read Korean). So to me it doesn't seem like there really is a "Part One" and a "Part Two". Perhaps the issue in this case is with the (flawed!) way the team at MDL choose to list stuff!
I scrolled through the entire list, wondering why 'Reborn Rich' wasn't on here somewhere. Then I actually looked it up. 2022? Seriously? Ok, who's stolen most of the last year?
So, basically, "Please, please vote, but if we don't like the result we'll pick who we wanted to win anyway".
