Well I'm also a westerner so I might not be completely right but according to my 12 years long experience of watching Thai BL and being in the fandom, I've noticed that in drama/idol/modeling industries there people with softer and more "delicate" facial features and "smaller faces" (even tho I have no idea what they mean when they say this) and with pale skin tone are more more sought out than the people who have darker skin and sharper, or more "handsome" facial features.
So like, from our point of view, Sun has all the features we usually consider attractive and handsome but to the modeling industry there, he seems "ordinary looking".
Now I know this is just a drama, but this has been a reality in idol/acting industry for a long time, not only in Thailand but in kpop industry, China, Japan... It's especially a prominent trend in kpop. Though lately in the past few years, this is changing and we can see a lot of Thai actors with more natural skin tone and various and different facial features.
