These pheromones are produces by the pheromones glands that are usually located in the neck, wrists, underarms, etc... Something like sweat glands. Only alphas and omegas have ability to produce pheromones and smell them. Betas don't have this ability. Omega scents are usually sweet, floral or fruity and Alpha scents are stronger and sharper like earthy or citrus-like.
Pheromones exist to signal someone's secondary gender, their emotions, their status, to attract potential mates or show dominance... For example, usually in most omegaverse stories, an alpha would find an omega's scent attractive, but the scent of another alpha would be repulsive to them. Also the stronger, more dominant alphas have stronger pheromones that can dominate other alphas and especially omegas.
