This was kind of a forgettable weekend. The only fun part was at the beginning of Ep10 when the LT pranked his brothers at the hospital. Thank you to the writers for not giving us an amnesia arc (yet).
Otherwise, we are seeing the typical over-exaggeration of the characters personality...for instance, the Chairman: All he had to do is thank the FL for the gift, but apologize graciously that he is not allowed to accept it due to business practice laws. But graciousness is not part of his personality, evidently so they over-wrote it with his stated reaction, thus triggering an over-reaction on the FL part, etc. Oh well.
As far as couples go, I am liking the 2nd bro + convenience store lady relationship best. Although with his "wife" coming back in the picture, that could be short-lived. I wonder how happy the wife is about his coming to visit them in the US? And I just wish I could FF past the dance/hairstylist couple scenes. What a waste of time and talent. At least we have the awkwardness of the youngest couple to enjoy.
And I'll go out on a limb here....I really think they are missing out on a "Ghost & Mrs Muir" kind of angle here. I'd like to have seen the ghost of Jang Soo appear to the FL to offer her guidance and comfort...I think that would be really touching, if not over-done too much. He was a good character that deserved better.
-I liked the little shot where she slid her chair back into his at the hotel restaurant to enter the scene of what we thought was his eating alone. That was really cute.
-Having the 2 chefs in the discussion meeting and tasting session was a nice touch of realism.
-As much grief as her Mom gets, I can't blame her concerns for her daughter's actions, to a man she was only married to for 10 days and knew less than a year. Her mom's biggest sin is she's just immature for her age.
-I like to look for recycled props from prior dramas (KBS is notorious for this) and I found it odd that the chairman's office has a corner decorated with props (LYNX sporting wear) from the exec offices used in The Real Has Come. In TRHC, those were in the exec offices of the Korean distributor of LYNX Worldwide Sporting Goods. So why would a hotel chairman's office have signage, etc from a sporting goods company?
Overall, another enjoyable weekend (despite the hairdresser/dancer scenes which seem really out of place). I hope they're not setting us up for an amnesia arc for the youngest son???
If you're a fan of historical dramas, he's one of the most iconic actors of our times. I'm watching 2022's "A Business Proposal"and it's fun to see THE ARCHFIEND in it.
I don't know why, but I really liked the 'clang' sound of her phone dropping on that outdoor steel patio table. And I appreciated that they did it a few times.
This was a really sweet, funny and touching series. It deserves it's 8.4 rating, and I'd give it even higher if they'd resolve the OST issue or at least subtitle the scenes where the audio is suppressed. That ruined a lot of crucial scenes for me.
Bai Lu is typically herself and she seems to pair well with just about anyone. LYX was a great foil for her and his "WTH" expressions are hilarious. I'd have loved to seen more of her mom written in, she was great. The 2nd couple was, OK, I guess...could have been worse.
My temptation is to compare this with Only For Love, but they are really two very different sets of characters and stories. (I do think she is better paired with Dylan Wang than LYX....I think????)
If you can find a source to watch this with all audio restored or at least subbed, go for it! It was a fun watch.

Every once in a while a drama has an incidental scene that is done so well that it can't be ignored. In Episode 6, the subway station scene between Chun Su and Mi Sun (around 10 mins in ) was PERFECT.
It began with the setup , with the tense ending of the exchange between Chun Su and his younger brother in the car and the overhead shot of the subway station. Everything in this scene was done just right: the lighting, sound, pacing, the actors expressions, starting with MiSun seeing the disconsolate ChunSu, lost in his own self-pity. Just about everything in this little scene was done so well, it's easy to imagine we are standing on the platform with them. I must have watched that scene 5 times and I can't find any fault with it.
It's nice to see veteran actors given the chance to do their best.

It seems like there was an implied time skip while she was engrossed in reading all the texts left behind. But nothing was specified. I guess we'll have to see if there's still snow on the ground in Ep 5?
Idol Eagle looks *terrified* whenever he's around Stan Hairdresser. The face he was making when she was doing…
What I don't get is that the Hairdresser actress is a former model and gorgeous. Why have they made her look so dowdy and given her a crummy hairstyle (especially when she's supposed to be a hairdresser)?
I usually watch until 20 episodes if the drama interest me from the beginning and just check spoilers if it gets…
It's funny, my approach used to be the opposite: I'd deliberately skip the first 5 or 6 eps, check here on the reviews, and if it looked good, I'd binge-watch to catch up, LOL. But haven't done that since 3 Bold Siblings.
It's just that THRC was so infuriating, I decided I needed a break from 50-ep weekenders. (Ironically, I checked our local TV lineup and Kocowa+ is airing THRC!!!! Aigooooooo!!!!)
I can't recall another drama where they would give so much development upfront to a doomed character. Usually, it's like The Love in Your Eyes, where a dead character is described in brief flashbacks throughout the series. I found the approach used here to be quite upsetting, as Jang Soo was a good guy and well-portrayed Eldest Son.
Technically, the accident scene was well-done, as he did exactly what most would have done: 1. Something falls on the floor 2. Driver looks to where it went 3. Driver looks around to see if the coast is clear so he can try to reach it 4. Driver reaches for object. If out of reach, he would pull over. But this WAS in reach. 5. Driver resumes trip. This was the error here - he spent 'too long' glancing at the locket. But I'm not sure if it would have made a difference, as he might not have been able to see the oncoming WTOD depending how blind the intersection was.
I guess it makes little difference then, he was doomed to die so they chose this method to kill him off. This seemed to be one of the most violent/graphic accident scenes since "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha" or the gold-standard of "Attorney Woo". I did think the way they did the final scene was realistic - the family wondering why the ER doctor came out of the OR so soon.....
I'll be honest, I'm not really sure if I'm up to 50 eps of this kind of drama again. I'm really curious how the members here feel about this series going forward.
Well, I guess it was OK, but seeing so much character development for someone that is going to be killed off soon was kind of troubling. That left me unsettled.
Things I noticed: -as noted below, mid-level casting. I wonder what the payroll for this series was, compared to the A-list heavy cast for Iron Family? IF must have had a big payroll, but only over 36 eps, so how much was left in the budget to pay for a 50 ep follow-on weekender? - So many characters....without a flowchart/family tree, how are we supposed to keep everyone straight? - I always felt that one of TRHC's struggles was that they tried string along over 3 couples relationship's (and did it badly), which leads to a lot of filler and dragging. I don't see how having the leads plus 4 other brothers to deal with is going to be any better.....but fingers crossed. - I guess this is going to turn into Heroic FL leads her in-law family to prosperity? Buckle up for the melodrama, I suppose...sigh. - lack of familiar faces: other than Choi Dae Chul (from TRHC) I didn't see anyone from any recent KBS dramas (other than a couple of bit-players deep in the supporting cast).
Ratings on Viki always seem to be 2-3 points higher. Honestly, I think the MDL community is kinda awful.
Doing well, have moved to the Pacific Northwest back in October....currently in Washington State but may wind up in Montana for the long-term (where rest of family settled).

I have to agree on the Eagle Bros....nothing I've seen yet that has been released on it sounds that compelling or interesting. But, we'll see.
I think part of the issue is that there are still tons of 50-ep scripts floating around out there and I put this on KBS to tell the writers, "tighten it up, it's 36 episodes for the time being". I really wish they'd stick to their guns on this one. There has been terrible oversight from the network on shows that were currently airing and obviously full of filler (this was especially bad in the daily dramas). I really wish there was better vetting of the storyboards and outline before these shows get the green-light.
