Thank you. I have no sympathy for the FL, despite how dismal her life was. No matter what she had to endure, it doesn’t absolve her from taking advantage of a child. Both teachers were abusers and that’s a fact. I was honestly hoping his father would catch on and intervene, but clearly the writers wanted to go in the darkest direction possible.

Heartless City is a true noir. I’ve watched essentially all the “dark” kdramas recommended here, but I was floored when I stumbled upon HC. I highly recommend it.

I completely agree. Thus far, only the villains have enthralled me, and it's entirely due to the writing. It would’ve been smart to sprinkle Gong Chan’s story in mysterious pieces the way they did in FoE. Then we wouldn’t have had to wait almost the whole series for some attempt at depth and character complexity.

There are plenty of high stakes in this drama, but none of them seem to carry any weight for me. Gong Chan is also two-dimensional and clean-cut, even though he’s supposed to be hiding this sordid past. I’m blaming the writing. They want him to be a perfect, unrealistically considerate person, but he just doesn’t come across as real. I’ll try the next episode, but basically, everything and everyone but Choi Tae-Gook are of no interest to me. I was floored when he entered his lair and opened a bag of…CHIPS. Who is this man?!?!

Well now I have to go back and rewatch EVERYTHING.

I’d blame the writers more than the FL’s character. There’s plenty to find annoying about the romance, but there are about 1000 other subplots happening at once. The writers couldn’t choose a main plot (like, that whole euthanasia and prison bit), They lean so heavily into tropes and rush the ending so much that once you finish it, you’re drained, and there’s nothing superb to balance it out so you don’t feel ripped off. I do not recommend this, unless you are a big medical drama fan and want to see some interesting cases.
