I think he does love himself first, he wanted his career and success first, he thought he deserved NXG to wait…
I somewhat understand his need to get his career going first before committing to FL. But what I don’t understand is his silence. Was he expecting her to just wait forever for someone who she thought didn’t even like her? He could have communicated to her, told her he was interested but just not now. Ask her for time. At least it’s some sort of commitment and she will know that eventually it will happen. But no, he stays silent, judges her for having a rich and easy life, and let her misunderstand that he’s in a relationship with Rong. Then years later, he’s blaming her for “lying” to him? Seriously?? I agree, he’s a nice guy at heart, but he needs to get over his inferiority complex, work on his self esteem and then find someone to love.
I am at ep 3 and don't understand the misunderstanding between FL and SML. They both like each other, and SML…
I’m confused on when SML tried his best?? Are we watching the same show? She outright confessed and he said “sorry” or something to that affect, which implies he doesn’t feel the same way. She sends him a message to clarify his relationship with Rong and he doesn’t bother to even reply to that. He sends mixed signals to the FL, makes judgmental remarks about her and never clarifies his relationship with Rong in front of her or their friendship group. Based on this, the FL thought he was in a relationship with Rong and therefore was trying to suppress her feelings towards him, which just made her feel even more miserable. If anything, she’s trying her best to get over him, and it doesn’t help that he’s just sending her mixed signals ALL THE TIME.
The most frustrating part is that he does like her, but doesn’t think he’s good enough for her and so has this inferiority complex and takes it out on her. He feels that he needs to do something big in his career before he can accept her love, which is fine, but for god sake just communicate that to her. She’s not a mind reader! He treats her like dirt and then expects her to wait until he’s ready to accept her.
I think we have the start and understanding of how the tantrum started: https://x.com/randmpersonjk/status/2008066580333449484?s=46&t=zqI38SPvJuccjplZiNI69Q
I still don’t understand. Do we know why he never replied to that message?? I had just assumed that Rong must have seen it first and deleted it from his phone so he never saw. Kinda like another misunderstanding between them to further show that they were just never fated to be together.
From the other side of the aisle, it is really lovely to see a confident woman step forward to show everyone and…
Thank you so much for all the info! Always great to hear perspectives from a book reader as the books always go into a lot more details on the motivations of characters which is sometimes hard to showcase and translate into film.
I read your comments explaining about how 1/3 of the novel was based on her college days and that would allow enough space to flesh out the FL and SML relationship to better understand why she was so hung up on him for so long afterwards.
I hope the FL take down of Rong happens in the show! Can’t wait for it.
I feel like we're watching a different drama lmaoIt's normal to feel like people who are dating look like really…
I have to disagree with you also. I don’t see chemistry or longing from her when she sees the SML. To me, I see her uncomfortableness. Obviously there is a history between them, an unpleasant one from her perspective. So when he’s around, she doesn’t feel like she can act like herself. She’s always doubting herself around him because of all the snide remarks and judgements he’s made to her. He turns her into a shell of herself. Whereas with the ML, he’s always on her mind when he goes away. When she’s around him, she’s all giddy and playful and I think that’s her true personality. He brings out the best in her and she has acknowledged this.
But this isn't just any company. Her father owns 49% of the shares and LYS has been helping her cultivate her…
Yes I agree, it’s not realistic. But a lot of stuff that happens in this drama, or most dramas aren’t realistic 😅. You watch it for what it is, fantasy.
That SML is hurting my brain! He’s just so frustrating. So lucky that he missed his shot and she never got together with him. He is an exact replica of her dad. If she had gotten together with him, he would always feel inferior to her and would alway be putting her down to make himself feel better. He was already like this when he wasn’t even going out with her, how worse would he be if they were actually together? She loved him more than he loved her and he felt that he could disrespect her without her retaliating.
I am so confused... He gets into an accident while driving to a blind date with her - BLIND date, then why is…
He met her 2 years ago at a party. He fell in love at first sight after seeing her strong personality. Later, he was told by his cousin that Mr Nie’s daughter was interested in him and wanted to meet him in Wuxi, that’s why he drove all that way there, thinking she was the person who invited him. That’s when he got into the accident and was disheartened even further when she never came to visit him at the hospital and didn’t recognise him when she met him again at work.
what was his deal with rong that kept him from accepting xiguang? he obv hates rong but cant say no to her (i’m…
Someone can love another and still treat them terrible. It was clear that SML was in love with FL, but for whatever reason, he just wouldn’t act on it. Yes there was misunderstandings caused by Rong, but he held back for other reasons we don’t understand. I think he felt interior to her and was trying his best to not like her. But you can’t always chose who you love
