I felt that same exact way until ep 6. That for me is when the storyline finally became more clear. I also did not watch TBOY, so did not have a handle on who is who for these early episodes.

They are two different actors/characters. But I think both will figure out the secret of the Jade Pendant. The Prime Ministers servant first though cause he was suspicious enough to know something is suspicious in that the FL/ML always escape the skilled assassins many attempts so he is calling in for the taoist master to analyze if there is something supernatural going on.
