Still, it would be too much for Vegas. Vegas was abused , but he still love his father (remember , V said something like 'everything my father gives me, it's important'). VP are closer now, but not so much that V could kill his own father. Maybe Kan will try to kill/hurt Pete, so that's why V is going to let him go.
