okay they rushed the ending but you are right the glazed holy fire protected part of his primordial spirit which was in the form of the crescent moon which Orchid received and had in her garden being cultivated for 500 years until he can be revived just like Dongfang did when he was reviving Orchid from a plant. Also note that Orchid as the Goddess of Xilan restored her powers so she could speed up nurturing Dongfang spirit for 500 years that maybe why he transformed earlier than expected.
