Came for the webtoon, stayed for the drama
It was different from what I was expecting. Rather than a complete adaption from the webtoon, the drama went a very different way. I thought it'd end up with a more open ending, which could possibly lead to a season 2, but it doesn't look like we'll get one, based on the ending of the series.
From the beginning, it seems that Suho is destined to end up with Jugyeong. As a hardcore Seojun fan, I'll admit, the story did disappoint me. I truly wish he was at least given a fighting chance to get with Jugyeong, rather than being thrown a bone on the second to last episode. I'm happy he ended up happy though, at the end of the series, he seems to be over Jugyeong or at least close to it, which is nice. I started reading the webtoon a long time ago, but the way Jugyeong treats Seojun is nothing like I remember. From what I remember, it was very much a 2 sided friendship, but in the drama, it feels like Seojun's doing so much for her, while she's not really doing anything in exchange, but I guess that could be because it's unrequited love. I'm gonna be honest here, despite preferring Seojun in the webtoon, I really enjoyed Suho and Jugyeong's relationship in the drama. Sure, it was cheesy at times and kinda cliché, but I liked it personally. I loved the Heegyeong story line. Seeing her and her jamong was beautiful, it really added a lot of comedy relief and cuteness.
I could be wrong (because I haven't watched a drama in a year or two, prior to this) but I don't think I've seen any of the main cast act before, but I'm so glad to have seen it. I thought the acting was really nice, I'm really tempted to follow the actors other endeavors, especially Hwang In Yeop, who's gonna be in Annarasumanara (very good manhwa btw, I'm excited to see how he's gonna play Il Deung).
The music in this drama is honestly great, considering the webtoon plot has the same musical backstory for the boys, it was up to par. My girl Yuju did so well on 'I'm in the mood for dancing', that song was in my head for like a week I SWEAR. Honestly I feel like it could've been used a bit more, but still the music was really good. I'm not gonna lie, I did in fact shed a tear when Seojun was singing the trios song.
Would I watch this again? Definitely, but probably not for a good year or two AT LEAST. As much as I enjoyed the show, I really do think they did my boy Seojun dirty, but at least everyone's happy. This drama's gotten me re-interested in dramas, so I wanna find new stuff rather than dwell on shows I've already watched.
