I understand it as well but I am thinking in the perspective of newer people like I once was learning Korean through kdramas, picking up on phrases and the like. Its true casual users couldn't care less.

I don't. I've seen a lot of bad/inaccurate subs on Netflix distributed kdramas. Most recently, Cafe Minamdang. Viki is the best for accurate subs because the people there actually put the effort even though most of the effort is free yet Netflix can't be bothered to do it right.
