At this point, his "I will kill you" statements are just empty threats. He's not looking forward to killing him even though he knows he might have to. He doesn't really hate him anymore. But he's human and the loss of his loved ones was caused by Zhu Yan so any normal human being wouldn't be able to let that go so easily. He told Zhu Yan to make things right instead of dying by his sword to properly atone for his transgressions because he doesn't want to kill him.

Now we know why the great demon Zhu Yan offered to join the demon hunting bureau and asked the one person with the ability to destroy him to end his misery. Ngl, I cried the most when Zhuo Yichen confronted Zhu Yan as the latter was breaking down. He still can't bring himself to forgive the demon for his transgressions but he also couldn't help but feel sorry for him. A part of him wants to comfort him but could only offer his cape and look on as the other continued to cry. Hats off to Hou Minghao and Tian Jiarui for that scene!

That's what I've been saying! But some are quick to dismiss the dialogue-heavy scenes because they get bored listening to people talk. These scenes are actually quite moving and thought-provoking.

These days, people like to throw the word plagiarism around when they see the slightest bit of similarity but some may misunderstand what it actually means. Plagiarism is when you use an existing story or text and copy a huge chunk of it, only changing a few parts to make it slightly different. Even the accusation of Disney copying Osamu Tezuka's Kimba the White Lion when they made the Lion King didn't stick. This is because both stories are loosely based on Shakespeare's Hamlet and Disney didn't completely copy Kimba even though you can definitely see the glaring similarities. Everyone is inspired by everyone and everyone copies from someone without giving proper credit. The only way this accusation will stick is if he directly copied lines and plot points from the donghua without any alterations. Not sure about the previous accusation because they didn't release enough details about that but I'm guessing the copying was so obvious he couldn't deny the plagiarism done. Guo Jingming is like the Zack Snyder of China (but I think he actually has an ounce of talent unlike the latter lol). They both like to take bits and pieces from popular IPs that they find cool and incorporate them into their works. Like Zack, he has a penchant for creating spectacular visuals and loves to use slow motion.

He was turned into a puppet but his soul was trapped there by Cheng Huang so his consciousness remains in that puppet. When Cheng Huang passed away, Zhu Yan took the remnants of that soul and used a spell to give him the ability to materialize whenever his sister needed him. He told Wen Xiao and his sister that he is grateful for Zhu Yan because it took away at least a thousand years of Zhu Yan's lifespan when he used that spell.

What I love most about this drama are the dialogue-heavy scenes that boast some of the most moving dialogues I've seen in a C-drama to date. The "you have always been my path and my destination" line from the earlier episodes really got to me even though I'm not really into romance. Also, there are plenty of life lessons that can be gleaned as the team takes on different cases and meets interesting side characters. Some of these characters are only featured in a few episodes yet they stay with you. While I agree that the main cast of characters are not as interesting as the side characters as of yet, I expect them to become more fleshed out as the series progresses. I also like the fact that it's not romance-centric and is actually character-driven. It doesn't rely on an elaborate plot to be engaging. I just find it a little funny that the reasons why I'm loving this drama so far are the same reasons why some do not enjoy it. I hope they don't drop the ball on this one, though. I don't really care whether it ends happily or not as long as they can justify it.

Same here. Probably why this appealed to me. I particularly like the dialogues, quotable quotes, and life lessons that can be gleaned from this drama. Ironically, it's precisely because of this that some people find it boring. lol If you're into bromance, you might find this drama interesting. Neo often has great chemistry with his male co-stars and it's also evident in this.

In my opinion, no. At least not yet. There's been some flirting and push and pull between the main CP, but nothing obvious yet. But others may say otherwise. It's just to me, this is focusing more on the relationships between the demon-hunting team members and their character developments, and the stories of the side characters. It's not a plot-driven drama but rather character-driven so some people might find the plot progression slow.

The insert songs are cool, but the musical score is even better! Thank you!

I'm biased. I can't see Neo with anyone other than Zhou Ye and vice versa now. lol I am still waiting for their reunion project. But I don't mind him being paired with others. Chen Duling is alright. I never had issues with her because I didn't see her in Till the end of the Moon where most people saw her as a villain and has since associated her with villainous roles. I first saw her in Mysterious Lotus Casebook and even though I didn't care for her character there, I never had problems with her.

If this drama is not for you, it's not for you. You can always drop it and find another drama to watch. No need to yuck other people's yum.

Ooohhh... you're right! American Gods tells the story of the old gods from ancient myths, and this drama is based on Chinese mythology.

My god, Zuo Ye and Ai Mi are probably the best looking couple I've seen in C-drama to date! I haven't watched My Journey To You so I didn't know they were also paired there. I just knew Ai Mi from The Blood of Youth and Zuo Ye from Back From The Brink. I hope they get their own drama soon.

Here's to hoping they release Moonlight Mystique and Under the Skin season 2 soon and that they do well. And they better announce the season 2 for Oh No Here Comes Trouble. That drama was a sleeper hit.

Eh, Douban's ratings are scored by fans, not critics. Some deliberately review-bomb dramas. But even so, different strokes for different folks. I found many highly rated dramas in Douban to be not that good. I trust my own judgment.

I can't tell you either because I also stopped watching when Fangs of Fortune started and I just focused on that drama. lol I lost interest in this drama because I found something better. But I will finish this sooner or later for Xueyi.
