Underhelming ratings?

It was the most-watched show on Friday in Korea, as well as scoring as the highest rated show among the key-demographic -- ages 20 to 49 -- and advertisers love that.

It is also the #1 TV show right now on Disney Plus in Korea.

I wanted to see Sweet Home but rapist Lee Jin Wook participated here....
Wow, how disgusting you are? Not only was he found not guilty, his accuser was sentenced to prison due to filing a fake accusation. Some people just can't help their nasty mouths, can they?

While I think some people would be disappointed in how these couples got where they did, for me it was very realistic. Things aren't always like in a drama, and each couple struggled with the same things they would have struggled with in real life, while often reacting the way real people would.

Yes, I found some things in the drama frustrating, especially during the first half when Bo Ra was acting like a jellyfish (no backbone), and in Ep 13 when she was still being way too nice to the scummy ex but, overall, like you, I have to give it a 10.

Hugely enjoyable, superb performances from everyone, and not always so clichéd like many similar K-dramas. Plus, I wasn't a big fan of Yoon Hyun Min before this, but he did a brilliant job in this role. Wil be watching more of his work going forward.

And, as usual, Yoo In Na nailed it. Then again, she's always been one of my faves, as she has yet to turn in a performance that isn't absolutely spectacular.

Highly recommend this if you enjoy a good rom com with realistic situations and people.

It's obvious he is. Every single scene has pointed to that being the case from the beginning.
Same. I am THIS close to dropping it, as she is becoming weaker and more whiny by the day :) Giving it one more episode, but if she doesn't grow a backbone soon, I think I'm probably done.

It will be interesting to see how her family responds though once the scam is revealed. Although, let's hope it's not just another reason for Dr. Cha to stay with her family, or I will be dropping this now annoying drama like a hot potato :)

Yep. 12 episodes are the gold standard. I have rarely watched a 16 episode drama, with the exception of Crazy Love, Crash Course in Romance and Her Private Life, that were worth the extra 4 episodes. And this one just needs to end, before I hate every single character in it :)

Beginning to detest this drama. It had such promise when it started off, but now the FL is just whiny, annoying and weak. At this point, I prefer the mistress to her. Will likely finish it but, if it continues down this road, my initial rating of a 10 is more likely going to be a 3 or 4. I just can't stand weak, whiny women, and that's who the FL has now become. Yuk.

The drama is set during a very prominent revolt against colonization. It’s history, not politics.
Unlike the Germans, who owned up to their horrendous past and tried to make retribution for it, the Japanese never have. Just like the Austrians (I currently live in Austria) with many older Austrians to this day trying to still push the "we were victims" narrative, when the majority of the country went all in on supporting the Nazis.

Personally, I like the Japanese as people and I love the culture, but it is their inability to accept responsibility or sincerely apologize that makes me have less respect for them. The Koreans, however, I have hella respect for.

Their country was destroyed during the 35 years of Japan's occupation, with almost a million Koreans murdered, and even more forced into being 'comfort women' or forced labor, while much of their wealth, cultural heritage and natural resources were stolen by the Japanese and then shipped back to Japan.

Yet, in less than 50 years, and even after then having to suffer through the Korean War just over a decade after the Japanese left, the Koreans built their country back up to become one of the richest and most powerful in Asia. And not many people can say that about their own country.

Hella respect.

Has the anti-japan elements calmed down a bit? I just want to watch it as entertainment without political statements.
It's an historical drama dealing with the period of the Japanese invasion of Korea. An invasion, by the way, that destroyed the country as the Japanese looted, raped, murdered and stole a huge amount of Korea's culture heritage.

And, even when they left, they weren't just satisfied with leaving, they burnt and pillaged the entire country before they did, leaving half of Korea starving and destitute.

Why would South Korea hide that incredibly tragic HUGE part of their history just to pacify the Japanese?

MDL rating is only 7.8… Unbelievable..
Come on, its MDL where users will literally drop a drama because a character says one sentence they find "offensive". NEVER go with MDL ratings, they're usually wrong. :)

Can you tag it as a Spoiler please? It's unfair to those who haven't started the drama yet to be faced with half of the plot. Thanks :) And nice review.

I'm amazed this rom com is not doing better in Korea as it is one of my faves of the season. Superb acting by every main lead, Yoo In Na is her usual fabulous, and the plot is fast-paced and fun. Can't believe we're heading towards the final two episodes so quickly, as this one has been a delight.

LOL nice seeing you here after TTEOTM ended. Do you think it would make sense to watch this season of the show…
Stick with Season 1, it's superb once you get into it. Took about 4 episodes for it really to grab me but, when it did, it was well worth watching the last 8.

Plus, if you don't watch the first season, while you might enjoy the 2nd, you will not understand much of the back story, which is really important to be able to understand why each character does what they do in the second season.

Yes, or you will really not understand most of the backstory. Besides, Season 1 is excellent.

Exactly. I've read comments of people dissecting the "reality" of scenes saying that what happens isn't possible. Yep, like everything that happens in films like Mission Impossible is reality - hahahaha. It's just a light, fun, and very entertaining show with fabulous characters. I'm now 9 episodes in and loving it.

No idea why the rating is as low as it is, nor why people are not watching it (in Korea or internationally) in the numbers they should be? It's excellent. Very entertaining, the characters are fabulous, and it's a fast and fun watch. Definitely recommend.

Then I'll drop it. I'm bored stiff in Episode 1, so if the last 5 are boring, nah, life is too short. :)
