Would it be too much for me to ask you to share a few examples from the book when you have a moment? I'm literally dying while waiting for their relationship to evolve ;(
After tricking her into going to his house to read an old letter, XW becomes inarticulate and unable to capitalise…
Honestly the actor who plays XW has brought this character to life incredibly well. I was genuinely moved during that hug scene - you could sense how heartfelt and sincere he was advising her to either fight for her love or give up and be courageous. He is such a strong and reliable source of guidance and strength to her. And when they zoomed in on his eyes when he said "you will find someome more suitable" (you could tell he almost decided at this moment to become that man for her). Such an iconic scene to me - my favourite so far. And this is the best way to describe both couples: ZZ is the better man due to his moral values, that ideal type every woman aspires to be with. But in reality XW is the more suitable man for her as he fully understands her, value her and accepts her for whom she is.
I know that people want a story to evolve more around their romance but this story is about the FL with her past…
I agree with what you're saying but this drama has been heavily marketed as a romantic drama (based on the trailer, how they marketed the CP, etc.). Politics play a big part but It's not a Nirvana on Fire type of drama. I'm honestly fine with slow burn romance as I love the angst but it just doesn't make sense to me to drag things for too long as viewers who haven't read the book don't have much time to connect to the FL + ZZ ship (as he was introduced super late). Whereas the tension and chemistry between the two leads has been super strong since the start (even if hidden behind that teacher/student facade).
I didn't find that funny honestly. I'm real sick of MLs straight up threatening FLs lives and independence, and…
Mmm sensible but ended up almost dead in her first life and in a coma in her second life because of her reckless behaviour. In this drama the FL has learned her lesson - she is trying to be amicable with people who are more powerful and to avoid being killed as she learned her lesson. That is behind sensible IMO. Putting toxic male ego in their place when you have zero power and can be killed/used at any time is useless. This is not the 21st century.

In that case maybe that's not the type of drama for you? Which would be fair enough. If a drama or character upsets me that much I would just not watch if I'm not enjoying it or being triggered.
Xie Wei getting mad anytime his feelings for Ning bubble up to the surface is hilarious to me. It's not her fault…
I know it may be a reach but I get the feeling that this is the writers way of subtlety showing the viewer that her heart is growing closer to the ML. There needs to be some transition for us to believe in their future love. The writers have done an amazing job at showing the inner turmoil of our leads realising their feelings. In the latest episode for instance, the FL kept on thinking about the ML and mentioning/defending him in front of ZZ (not something a woman who is indifferent would do). Her also realising that he has treated her well despite his threats and going to see him…I feel that unconsciously she is already attracted to him but can’t accept it yet.
She wants to be with him out of guilt. But anyway...Yeah, you don't know what you didn't do if you haven't done…
The FL inner dialogue in today’s episode proves our point though. She herself is questioning the nature of her feelings. Her love for him in the first life didn’t prevent her being selfish and sacrifice for him. In the second life she questions whether her feelings are guilt or true love. She may love him but what most people are saying is that they are not soul mates (which she will eventually realise). How can you tell someone really loves someone? When they are willing to sacrifice anything (reputation, morals, life) for their beloved. That’s what the ML is doing, and soon the FL will be willing to do the same.
When ZZ said to the FL that he wants to get married and watch the rain fall i nearly burst out laughing. Does he really think that’s what a woman like her truly wants. Another thing I noticed is how both the FL and ML are so in denial about their feelings for each other. The FL claims to be scared of him but she instantly trusts him and defends him, also her body language is way too comfortable around him. The Ml is pretty much acting as her default husband- the talk with her dad to protect her innocence, the way he tells her off but can’t stay angry for more than 5 min. And how well he knows her - when he said she is silly as she is an open book but told off ZZ for being naive about her true feelings.
