Apart from this as fas as I can tell from ep 13, ( and for semantics Stockholm is defined as feelings of trust or affection felt in many cases of kidnapping or hostage-taking by a victim toward a captor.) However in the last Ep Pete specifically tells in no uncertain words that he wants Vegas to get out of his life. He fights against even the sex that felt good, he lashes at Vegas for treating him like a punching bag emotionally and physically. Pete sympathies not with Vegas but with the shared trauma that they both have from their fathers. He empathizes with it, but I don't see any development of forced positive feelings towards Vegas during his captivity.
I know I am in the minority. I am enjoying this series a lot but I just can't get behind Pete/Vegas. I can't erased…
I feel like Pete can be diagnosed with anything BUT Stockholm! I feel he has a depressive mood disorder, he seems slightly suicidal, he is like an empath who can empathize and readily absorb others pain but refuses to share his pain with anyone at all. Like he can be a basket of illnesses, except Stockholm!!!
The first time Vegas says sorry in ep13, it's for selfish reasons. He apologizes because he doesn't wanna lose Pete, he doesn't want to let go of Pete, and he wants Pete to stay with him, because he knows Pete is his only ray of survival, of salvation, of redemption. So Vegas' fear at the moment is more palpable, more visceral, and he is more pathetic. Vegas' voice cracks, there's sweat beading on his forehead, and his emotions are probably in upheaval and that's probably one of the reasons a singular punch knocks him out (the other reason, of course, is because Pete has a mean left hook!).
The second time Vegas says sorry, it's not for himself at all. He does it, risking his own life for Pete. To offer Pete some closure. He apologizes because he knows Pete needs it, he does it because he knows how hurt and broken Pete is and also that Pete is probably falling apart without anyone to comfort him, (just like Vegas himself is). He doesn't ask Pete to come back, doesn't whine about not leaving him, doesn't make Pete promise anything, only demands Pete be honest to himself and to Vegas that there is something between them, and that he is so very sorry about everything that conspired, everything that happened.
I'm honestly so proud of Vegas for not asking Pete to stay with him during their second meeting in the alley. For not making it about him, but about Pete. For not asking for anything, other than just apologizing, profusely.
Well done, Vegas, you might be toxic but you ain't selfish!!!
Also, Vegas needs to work on his flirting game with Pete, cause it ain't working!
I literally face-palmed myself in the opening, 'you're so sexy' line like it's hot when Vegas says it, but Pete wasn't feeling it! And I'm not even very sure if Pete even understood the English. Vegas gotta flex his Thai flirting skills. And then the fool comment, I'm sure Vegas meant it in a sweet, affectionate way, but dude, it literally had the opposite effect and pushed Pete more into his shell.
Vegas really needs to up his flirting game with Pete, it's atrocious right now!
This is a good read on Tumblr that covers almost all points upto episode 12 about how it's not Stockholm.
It's a really well written meta.
