I don't think that's quite the psychology behind it.
Of cpurse they do feel that alienating their crush from the rival will give them a better chance which isn't entirely wrong. But there's also the whole 'if I can't date him then nobody can' thing going on with Sohee. She behaves the same way with everybody who even looks at Daon just like she does to Taekyung

In season 1 i found Ait and James exceptionally insensitive to the assault of their friend and subordinate respectively. That added to their overall stupidity—I just need a season on Bas and Marco or cuts or something but I'm afraid the cuts won't help understand the overall plot
