The story is really good and realistic, the production is great too, and the actors are impressive.
At times—actually, quite often—it reminded me of Takumi-kun, but in a good way.
But the way they handle the relationship with Kanda is, honestly, really bad. And look, I’m the last person who wants to use terms like “problematic,” but that’s exactly what it was. I understand that Japanese viewers really appreciate subtext, and the subtext that Kanda was bad (and a stain on Akira) is as clear as day. But even so, the show doesn’t handle it the way it should—and I’m not talking about some moral lesson the show is supposed to preach, but about Akira as a character. It was wrong, and Akira shouldn’t feel bad about himself because of what happened to him.
At least I can excuse the series (a little) by saying that, honestly, it was too short to deal with Kanda properly without rushing the storyline involving Akira and Kanata, imho.
All things considered, however, I can’t help but recommend the series. It was very good and deserves to be watched. Above all, the love between the main characters was pure and sincere, and as the series preaches (one of the things it did well), a tainted past doesn’t define you as a person.
Really well made ! I am not sure the backlash of the wish makes much sens in a "logic" of on and off switch…
It’s quite obvious to me that Hama-chan’s reaction is meant to give us the creeps. Just look at Wan Zhe's face. Yes, they love each other (Hama-chan stated at the beginning of the series that he always loved him), but Hama-chan is *obsessed* with him since that shooting star wish. That’s what Wan Zhe wished for. It was fun at first, and he doesn't take it seriously, but it's clearly out of control. And, just like the main protagonist, they both have to learn a lesson by the end of the story.
It looks really interesting, but idk I've been burned by Chinese series too many times.
I think I'll wait until it's over to see if it ends well or if it's another Blue Canvas (I know the producers do what they can on that series btw, bless their souls)
Whoa the first episode really, really suck. That stupid thing at the start took like half the episode, is off putting, really noisy and doesn't represent the rest of the show at all.
And they do it again at the end?? must be some kind of really common custom on Thailand because I cant explain it otherwise.
Porsche and especially Kris were amazing and I will die on this hill. Really sad that they dont have more series together.
Covid really affect the production of the series, its kinda distracting in scenes that are obviously meant to have a large amount of extras but have pretty much zero here.
Other than that, I really thing is a nice series. Nice couples (I dont really care that much for the main one, but it was nice), a lot more realistic than I though, nice sport scenes, excelent photography, and round up its own story well enough.
The atmosphere and setting were excellent, literally more than I could have hoped for. It reminded me of how I felt watching I Told Sunset About You.
The music, although few and far between, was spot on. In fact, it was very refreshing that nobody started singing mid-series just for the sake of selling CDs and concerts afterwards.
I liked the couple much more than I expected, and the roles suit them perfectly, although Winny struggles with the emotional scenes and could improve a bit. Satang is a real revelation this year, in my opinion.
The plot, however, although reasonable, was significantly compromised by the length of the series, specifically the situation in Arantha. It was rushed all over, and I genuinely believe it was intended to be a 12-episode story rather than 10. I am glad that the director cut those parts (the plot in Arantha) rather than the story on the first summer of Wave&Lava on the island.
I genuinely loved the series and I hope there will be more like it. Maybe longer ones, though, lol.

I don't remember much about the portrayal of the characters, but I can say that, considering that his relationships with women did not fulfill him, it's an educated guess to think that he was not really straight to begin with but rather a closeted gay man who was just trying to conform to the expectations that society imposed on him.

It's truly remarkable, in my years consuming BL and such, it's the first time I've seen a proper story of a straight man who was actually gay all along. And in a realistic way too, without being a weird fetish.
Excellent movie, beautifully realistic and very well made and performed. And with a great artistic sense without being patronizing nor pretentious.
And every scene Kanda appeared in was awkward, and I don't think that was a choice made by the production team. I hope I'm wrong.
