Apparently Keltic and traditional Scottish music are appreciated in China. Eg, the Scottish song Auld Lang Syne gained popularity in China. And, you may even find Chinese music that has a similar feel to it.
This film is based on a short story. Although it has fighting scenes it definitely is not a wuxia film. Although obviously the film is based on a story, and it has personal development and events, it has a slow pace. The cinimatography is very, very beautiful. Some call this film minimalist. However, I feel it is better to describe the film as a reflection of the notion of Nothingness or Emptiness, if not both. It may refer to daoist, buddhist or even western filosofical concepts. Although I have no deep knowledge of these concepts the feeling of the film attracts me. Apparently, reading the comments, this film is not for everyone. Still, I would advice to watch the film, try it, and experience the spiritual intentions and the beauty. It is not for nothing it got awards.
