I think it was the producer not the director, the producer did say she wanted to show more of srq because she liked his character from the novel, since I never read the novel his extra appearance never really affected me.

His character is so cute, kinda reminds me of pwx. But his character also has a dark side cause I think he got possessed by a demon or something.
