About me

I was just a 10-year-old Polish girl when I discovered movies like Hero, House of Flying Daggers, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and immediately fell in love. These films became my favorites throughout my childhood.

Years later, in my early 30s (yup, I am undeniably a Millennial), at the beginning of 2023 and after watching countless Hollywood movies and TV series, I found myself searching for one of my old-time Chinese favorites on Netflix.

(Un)fortunately, none of those were available at the time (or on Polish Netflix?), so I took a chance and chose to watch a fantasy drama from South Korea. That drama happened to be Alchemy of Souls. Little did I know that Asian dramas would soon become a big part of my life.

I became (a little bit) obsessed with Lee Do Hyun and his acting after watching The Good Bad Mother, The Glory, and Youth of May. I’m quite sure there’s no role this man didn’t nail.

After a few months of (binge) watching K-dramas, I decided to watch my first C-drama, Hidden Love. Not long after, I was deep down the rabbit hole, falling in love once again with Chinese culture and dramas (and, not gonna lie, with male actors too… Zhang Ling He has no business being that beautiful).

Xianxia/Wuxia/Historical dramas are my absolute favorites. I can’t even remember how my life was before I met Fan Xian from Joy of Life or Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan from The Untamed.

Danmei adaptations introduced me to the world of BL dramas. I wouldn’t be lying if I said that I think about I Told Sunset About You and The Eighth Sense every day. I Feel You Linger In The Air sparked a deep dive into researching Thai culture, particularly from the early 20th century.

Some time ago, I finally braced myself to join the comment sections of the dramas I've been watching. With my interest in psychology (I even studied the subject for a while), I love analyzing characters and relationship dynamics. I enjoy the heated discussions and learning from other people's points of view. Another passion of mine is photography, so I must admit I have a soft spot for beautiful shots and cinematography.

Currently, I’m doing my best to keep up with ongoing dramas (or maybe I’m just not patient enough to wait—hard to say).

My Rules for Rating:

I give most dramas at least 5 episodes to engage me. That’s also the minimum number of episodes I need to watch before rating a drama.

I’m not hesitant to drop a drama or put it on hold. I drop dramas if they fail to capture my interest, usually after a few episodes. I use On Hold for dramas that might just need a better day for me to give them another try. This doesn’t mean I found them bad or unwatchable.

Fun fact: As a teenager, I was a Potterhead and a die-hard fan of The Lord of the Rings—books, movies, you name it. I even wrote some fanfiction (though I’d say it wasn’t worth sharing, haha). I still read fanfiction to this day (AO3 saved my sanity during the pandemic). I spent years learning English at school with minimal results, until one of my favorite TV shows at the time required me to understand the language. Those were the days before Netflix, but I had to know what happened with Emma and Hook in Neverland (iykyk).
