I liked this at first. But as it went by, I lost my passion for this drama. It only went on circles. I didnt like how LSG's character was written - a violent man who is all feisty without much thinking. Sometimes, my head aches with all his screams. Sorry for the rant. This could have been written as a movie. It felt dragging for 16 episodes. Comparing it to 'The Fiery Priest', I liked more how Kim Nam Gil executed a character who is also angry and seeking revenge.
Kim Nam Gil here looks like Keanu Reeves in The Matrix--the black trench coat, the shades, the hairstyle, and…
I liked this drama way better than Vagabond in every aspect. Between Kim Nam Gil and Lee Seung Gi (in Vagabond), KNG portrayed his character better. I'm comparing their characters as both of them needed to portray anger and sorrow over the loss of their loved one. No wonder KNG won the Grand Prize in SBS Drama Awards. So happy for him! ❤
I struggled watching the 1st 3 episodes but Im glad I didnt give up. Yeon Woo Jin did a great job. He never failed me. The female lead was indeed annoying at first, but the direction of her character improved along the way. The sidekicks were also annoying at the first few episodes, but I guess, this was to show how the development of their relationships would drastically change.
I also appreciate how they tackled the issues on the consequences of bad parenting and not conveying your thoughts. I applaud this drama for showing that shy people can also be leaders.
Overall, I enjoyed this drama especially the comedy and the heart-warming scenes. :)
I wish they could have extended one more episode. They could have shown: - Aeng Du as a teenager and having a problem which boy to choose in the island as a boyfriend (of course who knows how to cook) - the Queen having a hard time adjusting to the simple life in a fun way - how Dong Joo and Nokdu will learn how to change diapers and fight over who's gonna do it - Nokdu teaches his eldest son some martial arts and catching fish - Aeng Du's father telling Nokdu's kids about a tale of a boy who is smart and as strong as 10 men but disguised himself as a woman
Nonetheless, it was wrapped up nicely. Surely, this is one of my all-time favorite dramas. :)
The writer achieved her goal for this drama to be unpredictable and worth waiting for til the last episode, at least for me (maybe im not really good at predicting endings, lol). I still wish for Nokdu to be crowned as king! T.T
Love this so much! I like how this drama presented that you can turn your life around even though you think it's the end. As you turn your page, there's more to life than meets the eye :)
There was once a preview that the king was asking Yeon Soo if he lived by the name 'Nokdu'. Did that happen already? Did I miss it? Have I read the correct translation? :)
