sigh very unfortunate how that drama played out, planned and unplanned hitches. it was fantastic but imagine if better latter episodes, not one episode a day and no leak. would have been even more amazing.
I want to watch this because of Zhang Linghe and the high score, but I'm afraid this falls into certain category…
I watched this when it came out and was so triggered by the boring story line that I gave it a 7 and dropped it. well, I’m currently in depressed mode bc of POJ so my standards are pretty low right now. I just need me some ZLH. dropped my expectations to basement level and this drama was surprisingly enjoyable. a lot of fluff, not alot of drama. it’s like a romance slice of life. there were moments of cringe where I had to look away but most of it was enjoyable. I will say one thing I really liked about this drama was that it never felt rushed like most dramas do now. pacing was consistent (albeit slow), it was all about the leads. we got ample lead time and every thing was tied up in a pretty bow at the end. give it a shot but lower your expectations
having said alllll this…. I wouldn’t watch this if it wasn’t for ZLH. as superficial as I might sound. 😬
I am going to say it here first, drop the drama at one go, don't make us wait like POJ! It really ruined the viewing…
or at least not one episode a day. that airing schedule was terrible. they aired one episode a day when the drama was at its lowest, episode 27ish to 35ish, oddly all politics, no lead time, overlapping storylines… I always feel like had I binged this drama when it was all out, watching those bad single episodes would have been more bearable. click click skip skip. but to wait 24 hours each day for bad episode was way too annoying
okay that’s what I thought but my friend said this year q4 and that didn’t make sense to me. although I will say, the princess royal came out 4 months after end of filming so I remember being shooketh with the turnaround time.
After ep 30 everything feels like a summary and the flashbacks and sequence of events get so confusing.
I really think they tried to get creative with the storylines and then realized that had to wrap everything up in a matter of 2-3 episodes. so these wrap up episodes became more of monologues leaving viewers doing their best to connect the dots. great drama, still love it. but they bit off a little more than they could chew
all of this. but here I was loving 39 bc I was starved in the previous 10 episodes. it was as if I finally got some action. this drama was masterpiece in the first 25ish episodes and it really said lol nvm for the next ten episodes. but you’re so right. it is a little ridiculous in 39 now that you spell it out. 🫠
I’m only halfway through, and I still can’t figure out how she fights like that or has all these skills. She…
the coin scraping is called gua sha and is a form of treatment in traditional Chinese medicine. it’s typically used for relieving pain and muscle tension and increasing blood circulation. you don’t actually need to use a coin specifically, it was probably just an easily accessible hard object for scraping in that setting.
the show took it a step further for story telling purposes and said her meridians were blocked. so gua sha was likely used for improving circulation for her. but it’s all just an exaggeration, girl fell from a cliff. gua sha isn’t going to save her. having said that, I’m not complaining if I can get a scene like that 🔥😅
