Sigh! I don't know what's C-drama lands obsession with making supposedly "powerful" and "independent" women stoic and like robots. Powerful women also feel, love and crave intimacy. I really wish they had followed the novel because the ML & FL's relationship was much better. It was passionate and taboo because of their statuses but when they were around each other they couldn't control themselves. That candy kiss for someone in their late twenties to mid thirties was beyond ridiculous. The acting from the cast isn't bad but the overall story just isn't very well executed and the romance is lacking.

As someone who read the novel I'm mostly satisfied with this drama. Especially, the wedding night scene. Chinese dramas are definitely getting more risque with love scenes and I'm so HAPPY! I'm so glad the FL didn't pretend to be shy and was passionate and proactive. In that area, she actually seems like the more dominate one 😳 which is surprising because the ML is very dominating in politics. My only issue is how they are treating CXQ's storyline. They don't have that many episodes left so it seems like they are trying to rush his villian arc even though his motivations are kind of weak. In the novel, he is a border-line insane MENACE but gradually you see why. In the show, there's just no reason for him to acting so obsessive. FL & him both had little crushes on each other but so what? He is ENGAGED! What did he think would happen? He didn't even meet her on the bridge. It just seems very forced and a plotline for pointless conflict. I really like CXQ's actor and think he plays a good villian. He's doing the best with what's he's got but the character in the show isn't written well. Overall, I still like the show and I'll continue to enjoy it.

Thanks for the suggestion. This drama is definitely making me want to watch all of his works. I need something to occupy my time while I wait for new episodes.

This is definitely Zhang Ling He's break out role for me (even though he's already very popular in China.) His acting can be hit or miss in my opinion but in this project he's just checking all the boxes. The way he goes from soft when he's with the FL to exuding complete power/control when he's with his enemies is just drool. All while being so calm. I just CAN'T. Also, Qi Men/Deng Kai I was not familiar with your game. Yes he's completely toxic but the real question is could he be toxic with me? I blame Luo Yunxi in AOL for making me love the toxic SML troupe so much. But in all seriousness, all the actors so far are phenomenal and I don't care what the netizens say the drama is actually very good and entertaining. Dare I say even slightly erotic. I'm so excited for more episodes.

Agreed! So far not loving it but I will try to be patient.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm planning to binge watch Fated Hearts this weekend and I've heard a lot of good things about that drama so I'm excited. I'm a Chinese costumes drama fanatic so it definitely suits my tastes.

That's interesting. The enemies to lovers troupe is a very common drama theme but its rarely done WELL and in a natural way. I was hoping Love in the Clouds would be a gradual sensual burn because of the trailers but its already starting a bit clumsy. I will definitely check that drama out though.

I think "The Prisoner of Beauty" has forever ruined me because I have yet to find a Cdrama this year that can top that raw natural chemistry. A Dream Within A Dream and When Destiny Brings the Demon had good chemistry between the main leads as well. I'm going to try and give this drama a chance but so far to me the atmosphere between the two is giving awkward and not in a funny, playful way. It just feels off too me. Maybe I should be more patient but so far I'm a little disappointed. Neo is VERY handsome and a treat for my eyes so I'll stay for now. Hopefully it will get better.

Thats what a lot of the Chinese comments are saying 😂😂😂 . They are like the 2nd prince has a crush on Fan Xian and will pursue him to the ends of the earth. It's so funny.

I can see why. He's such a good actor and I'm so glad that season 2 is showing more of his personality.

This is my first comment on MDL. Usually, I prefer reading what other people say, but I just wanted to give my 2 cents because I'm a huge fan of the series. Going in, I wanted to keep my expectations minimal because I didn't want to be disappointed. Frankly, I think JOL season 1 is hands down one of the best Chinese dramas to exist. It just has everything. However, I am really enjoying season 2, and I think some of the complaints are a bit over dramatic. What I really love about this season is how much Fan Xian has grown up and matured. Of course, he's still very bold, but he's a lot more careful and calculating now. He's also slower to rush into things based off of his emotions. I'm loving everything so far and for all the people complaining that there is too much comedy they should enjoy it while they can. I hear season 3 is going to be much darker and very emotional. I'm so excited 😊.
