Actually, I never brought up the budget. I only pointed out the titles because I believe the similarity is intentional, not a coincidence. After that I simply said what didn’t work for me and how disappointed I felt about a premise I had really liked. That’s all.

If they didn’t want comparisons, they probably shouldn’t have chosen a name and premise that sit so close to The Last of Us. There are plenty of other zombie stories they could have drawn from (World War Z -Max Brooks is right there), yet they went with the “person who has the cure in their blood” angle. It’s been done a thousand times, and that doesn’t automatically make it interesting. I expected at least some sense of a lived-in apocalyptic world. Instead, after four episodes, I’ve mostly watched them go for supplies, play guitar, and talk. That’s fine if the focus is purely on the BL relationship, but the show is being marketed as a zombie apocalypse story too. So far I’ve only seen one side of it. They might reveal more about the organization later — or they might not. Either way, 80 minutes is enough time to give the audience a reason to stay interested. For me it just wasn’t there.

It makes me sad because I really liked the premise — a zombie apocalypse mixed with BL. It felt incredibly unique and full of potential.Unfortunately, the execution fell flat. It’s not just the use of AI. The dialogues are boring, the plot structure is weak, the zombies look and move strangely, and the group’s survival situation raises some questions. I also wish they had given us a few more hints about the Fireflies-like organization (or whatever they call it) and the technology they have.
The episode finished way too fast. It felt like it just started and then it was already over. 40 minutes flew by. And Viki told me Episode 3 is only coming in 7 days… 7 days feels like forever.
Before I watched it, I was thinking, “I want to see what Song Kang will do after becoming a Neohumans in Sweet Home 3.” But it started out so interesting… and I ended up watching both episodes. Even though I can already guess how the events will unfold, that it will cover painful topics, and that I’ll probably cry at the end… for now I’m all in.
