The Struggle to Power
Ever since I saw reels on the first episode of this show, I have been waiting for all the episodes to stream before binging this show. Now that all the episodes have streamed I am pleased to say that THIS SHOW DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!
Firstly, the chemistry. I loved FTY and ZL as a couple, the way they looked at each other, drawn to each other, it was truly beautiful to watch. Ding Yuxi and Deng enxi truly outdid themselves in this role. They were so adorable together!! I loved how they stood with each other no matter what, and although there were fights and arguments along the way, they always found their way back to each other within an episode (no extensively stretched out break up lasting multiple episodes luckily!!).
I also quite enjoyed the plot in this show. I have seen many shows on fighting to power, but the way we see ZL, someone who quite literally had nothing, climb to the epitome of power, was truly incredible. The plot, the sacrifice on this path was beautifully shown and written in this drama. I actualy enjoyed the political struggles and intrigues, offering a truly realistic view on what it means to walk the 'road to splendor'.
Additionally, I loved the OST. The songs in this drama were actually so good, full of emotion, that I have now added some to my playlist!!
The only comments I would have are just that the acting wasn't anything too special, it didnt really stand out to me compared to other dramas. I would also say that I was annoyed by how many times ZL wouldn't tell FTY stuff to protect her, but honestly it made sense and these issues only truly lasted an episode, never truly affecting what they had for one another.
Overall, a really good drama. Definetly give this a watch!
