Well I didn't read the books but it doesn't seem to me that righteousness is an important mantra for any of them. It seems like they are just different schools that assist cultivators in attaining immortality - kind of like whether you get into to Stanford, Harvard or Trump University.

Indeed, the Chinese god pantheon, very much like the Greek and Roman one - full of human failings, flaws and weaknesses.

Director Yang Yang is great at everything except casting. But at least this is not as bad as Ever Night CP which was just disturbing.

The cap is the lesser of 40pct of the budget or RMb 1/episode for lead actors and 70pct for total actor pay. Quite sure Yang Yang got most of it in this drama. That is still huge chunk of the budget going to pay although not as excessive as past dramas (Legend of Fei) where it was 90pct. For something high fantasy like this there is not that much left for CGI and it shows.

No idea what Yang Yang's pay rate is vs Dilraba but if I had to guess, it is more. Dilraba has been in too many flops at this point that it would be insane to pay her much. She is rarely in dramas nowadays bc she makes reportedly over CNY 600mm in ads and endorsements every year. For her, the occasional drama is a loss leader to stay relevant/in the public eye. That's why I personally have no time to waste on her dramas. No hate, I think she is exquisite and a lovely person. Her acting however does not work for me, I am happy just to flip through her magazine shots.

A dramatic tear filled moment would have been out of place. But so is practically nothing. I think what is missing is something in between. And that's where he struggles - with the nuances. I think the casting is very good bc Yang Yang's look is already very aloof, immaculate and unattainable - super immortal like. The hard part of this role for him is the young years, where he should be less immaculate, less detached, more mortal. From ep 1 he already gave me strong immortal vibes. That made me surprised to find out later that he has low innate talent for cultivation, that the journey or struggle for him should be harder. But so far, I don't really see a hard struggle.

Yes indeed ARP is a good example of an actor that got into character and stayed there throughout. Let's see if he can repeat it in his other dramas and in more complex roles. I do think Han Li is a much more difficult role than Yan Chi.

I think it was terribly remiss and stingy of them not to find out who killed him to give them the huge reward they deserve. But its ok, Han Li has made it rich in the garden.

Yang Yang's acting is certainly a work in progress but putting his stunning looks aside, in this drama, he was valued/chosen also for his willingness and ability to do stunts himself. They are quite hard stunts and he pulls it off well. A lot of other actors will wobble around like tofu or worse, faint or hire a body double. Have to give him some credit for that. As for emotions, he really needs to do better but I hope he doesn't start crying all over the place. Too many idol actors think they just need to be able to cry on demand and that's called emoting or acting. Its my pet peeve, I don't like excessive cry scenes from both men and women and nothing makes me grit my teeth more than crying in scenes that are not even sad. The really great actors can make you cry without shedding a single tear (i.e., Hu Ge/NIF).

Its an attempt at visual humor that didn't quite land in the right way.

I think Immortal Ascension is pretty good.

S/S+ means nothing in terms of production values. Most of the budget goes to pay the actors. Yang Yang is pretty expensive.
