They are just telling an abridged version of the story.

I don't think Ning is that bad at all. She just acts stupid bc she doesn't want her uncle to know she is smart. And I wouldn't underestimate Canxing - he already won the throne. He's just trying to eliminate anyone who challenges the House of Zichuan's rule. And if Sairong could see Di Lin's naked ambition, so can Canxing. He is just protecting House Zichuan. That's his job. In any story where there is a monarch, he gives his ministers power while dividing them against each other. Otherwise they may unite against him and depose him. The last thing any ruler wants are factions at court which is what the 3 brothers are. This is just is power play 101.

Canxing doesn't have to make them hate each other to win. Separating them is also dividing them as they are less powerful when they are not a unit. Di Lin has no power left in the capital. His military control was taken away by Canxing in S1 and given to Luo Minghai, who can't wait to revenge him for slaughtering his family. Di Lin's biggest weak spot is he has no friends other than the other two. He is also not a legitimate successor to the Zichuan throne, Ning is. If he deposes her, for sure Xiu AND Si Yilin will come for him.

Unfortunately this drama doesn't have a big budget so there has been a ton of plot movement already in the first…
In Yanzhou:
Zichuan Xiu is isolated - wanted by both Beizu and Zichuan as a traitor. Interestingly both Sairong and Canxing use similar tactics to isolate him. But Xiu has made a lot of progress already in uniting the different tribes of Yanzhou. Beizu's strategy with Yanzhou seems to be to loot it as a source for money and minerals for weapons to support their push towards Zichuan. They intend to enslave some of the people in the mines and kill off all the rest to avoid unnecessary rebellions. They are coming for the temple not just for the loot but also to break the spirit of the tribes. Xiu will have his hands full rallying Yanzhou to stave off Beizu with his rag tag army and limited resources. But Liu Fengshuang a talented military strategists seems to have been cut off from her family and may be on the run. Looks like she could team up with Xiu in the coming episodes.

Back in Zichuan:
Canxing the ultimate Machiavelli from S1 continues to scheme with Part 1 of his divide and conquer strategy successfully executed with the isolation of Xiu from his brothers. He is now clearly dividing Si Yilin and Di Lin. He has paired up Si Yilin with his trusted god-daughter Li Qing. He is spreading rumors to cause them to marry, sealing Si Yilin's loyalty to him. I suspect he will move against Di Lin the next time he sends Si Yilin and Li Qing off to battle somewhere. He let Di Lin's wife go just to make Di Lin let down his guard against him. She is pregnant and can't run anyway.

But Di Lin is also making his own plans. I think the only thing that keeps him in check is his wife and there is foreshadowing that her pregnancy will kill her. There was a lot of hidden talk in his conversation with Sairong. He gave up too much from Zichuan to get Si Yilin and not much of an army out of that fort. He could have probably secured their release with just Ka Dan and a smaller handful of cities. But he wants to potentially make an alliance with Sairong and so he gave him a ton of goodies. Sairong can read between the lines and has already made his first bid. It was not exactly refused. Sairong did not need to let a powerful general of Zichuan (one that even scares Yun Qianxue) leave like that if he were confident of his loyalty. The unquestioningly loyal Si Yilin for example would have never left that meeting alive. He let Di Lin go because he knows that Di Lin is more useful to him alive than dead. He knows Canxing will never tolerate Di Lin's naked ambition and that he is part of the internal strife in Zichuan. He can sweep in and cleanup later when Zichuan is weakened from within.

We are building up towards a very tricky dynamic with Si Yilin and Di Lin looking like they are going to be on opposite sides. Not sure how its going to play out.

Unfortunately this drama doesn't have a big budget so there has been a ton of plot movement already in the first 10 episodes but most of it takes place via exposition and almost trailer-like quick scenes. To just summarize where I think we are at this point plot wise:

Everything I consider 6 and below goes onto the dropped list. That will be probably soon be Fangs of Fortune…😂😂😂
Tyvm. LXY is an excellent actor, he pulls off his roles well in both KMLM and In Blossom. I think if you watch KMLM you can stop after the first 3-4 episodes or at most the first arc. In Blossom is not a terrible drama overall if you can stomach JJY.

Maybe you haven’t been paying attention to the dialogue there is a lot of it but it’s already unfolding. And with 14 episodes there’s plenty of time.

Doubt it - I have seen and read enough villain origin stories to know Dilin is going to be the big baddie. I’d be shocked if I am wrong it’s been teed up since S1

I don’t think it’s that romance focused but i am guessing one of them is end game for Xiu. He will need a strong marriage alliance to unite the lands.

I don’t think so but we have met both the Lius and Lins in S2. Both female generals. Looks like a triangle.

I don’t think their goal is to bring peace to the lands they are committing genocide in Yanzhou. Food is the scarcest commodity in this world so
with less people…

OK, here’s something I don’t understand and maybe the novel readers can explain it to me. Bei Clan has so…
Its explained in the drama. The Bei clan live in the frozen and inhospitable North where food is scarce. They are headed south partly out of survival and partly bc who wouldn't want to trade up? Its exactly why the Mongols invaded China/the Central Plains. They have been fighting a generational war and are being pressured on their Western border by the Liu family, whom they are quite afraid of. All the clans in this world have internal strife it is not unique to the Bei clan. No one has the luxury of simply pausing their external ambitions/wars to get the house in order. Besides, success on the battlefield is usually how a successor is picked during chaotic times.
