The story is not about TSJ but he and his family are important to the political dynamics. And the whole second half plot is politics, politics and more politics. But if you skip that you may as well skip the drama and you won't be able to follow S2.

No it doesn't digress into subplots that are not relevant to the main plot. It is tightly written and shot. Grandma like everyone else in the story is a schemer but she doesn't get extended screen time. Cutting her scenes won't even save you an episode.🤷🏻‍♀️

I think they are grossly exaggerating unlike the Double it doesn't go on for episode after episode. Its just a few scenes here and there. But suit yourself.

Its not that crazy, it is no where near as ridiculous as The Double. And not easy to FF bc there is other stuff going on at the same time.

You mean Nian Nian? She gets better - a very funny actress. YZ was made to play XY, no one else could have pulled off the role.

Jin Yong was the Editor of Mingpao, which is still the 2nd largest daily newspaper in HK that my dad still reads every day. So he was very politically aware and kept a keen eye on geopolitics. A lot of his stories were inspired by his world view sitting from HK. So he was kind of like Wang Chongyang the Central Divine sitting in the middle and above the fray. To the East, they are heretics that don't embrace conventional values and ideology. To the West are the Imperialist Western powers who are toxic and out to steal technology/weapons (Nine Yin Sutra). To the North was China who was at the time poor and powerless or beggars. And the Southern emperor is of course Buddha, the prince who gave up his kingdom. Jin Yong writes a lot about Taoism and Buddhism in his books. Of course semiconductors weren't a big deal during his time. I just mention it bc China and the US have been squabbling over it on recent years.

There are multiple plot arcs unfolding in LYF so its not that easy to skip stuff.

Tyvm. I read your review and it reflected your enjoyment and that's all that matters. For what it's worth the final ridiculous arc was not developed so I just chose to ignore it altogether.

Lol - I almost feel the last arc was shot just to show Duke Su does have armor though he often forgets to put it on!!!😂😂😂

I did enjoy it overall but don't watch without too much logic is always my mantra but also my hardest cross to bear at the same time! I would have rated this drama very high if they explored Duke Su as well as they did Shen Yurong.
