I don't want to spoil it too much, but there is a huge issue. Some viewers have said that it is her being childish, but some of us realize it is the only thing she could have done.

The ending leaves us with that they will be getting married in the future (formal wedding bows, etc.). However, this couple is not a traditional couple, a formal wedding ceremony would make a mockery of everything Shao Shang was fighting for. Also, I feel they did have a wedding ceremony. The two were dressed in their capes in an army camp out under the stars. They proceed to give their vows at about 33 minutes in. For me it was a beautiful ceremony. Others do not agree with me. Thus, it is left to the viewer's interpretation.

Your question is a tough one to answer as it depends on the viewer's interpretation of events.

We all have different expectations of dramas. I actually watched it and passed it off as a simple modern love story (which feel childish and silly to me). What you mentioned above actually made me start to question why Zhao Lu Si (ZLS) would play such a role. ZLS always plays roles of strong females who speak out against societal norms. This drama is no different, but it took me awhile to figure out what she was speaking out about (besides bullying and the son should not inherit the father's sins). Now, I am blown away by how intelligently it was written and filmed. There are many Easter eggs in it and a great many objects that mean something that enhance the story. But that is just me.

I disagree. If the general killed protecting the people and the people loved him, there was no need to kill him. The general was killed because the advisor to the king felt the general was getting too powerful and wanted to take over the throne. This was not the case as the general was loyal to the king. The queen, the general's sister, was killed because she chose her brother over the king. The king killed two loyal subjects and later regretted it. In the fantasy genre, the protagonist makes a mistake and must make amends for his/her actions. The general did nothing wrong. He protected the people and did his job. The protagonist should have been the king seeking forgiveness from the general and the queen.

This is why the story makes no sense to me.

You don't have anything to be sorry about. This drama is not for everyone and that is okay. I enjoyed it for its intelligent way of dealing with the age of consent law in China which is 14.

Actually, the actress who plays Sang Zhi at 14 was 11 at the time. The actress played a younger version of Zhao Lu Si's character in Who Rules the World. She also plays a younger Zhao Lu Si in The Story of Pearl Girl.

For this drama, they needed her for her height, so that it would show how much Sang Zhi grew up between 14 and 17. Remember in the first five minutes of the drama, she says, "Time has its own kind of magic. It brings us closer in height and distance."

He proposes marriage in episode 24, but they do things together before that.

For me, what you have said totally reflects my take on the drama. If fantasy is about forgiveness and redemption, the Goblin isn't the one who needs to be redeemed. He did what he was required to do as a general to keep the country safe. Also, he knew how to love, so why did he need a bride to pull out the sword? The person who should have pulled it out was the Grim Reaper, who is the king who had the Goblin killed and later killed himself because he regretted it so much. So in the Grim Reaper's next life he should be the one seeking forgiveness.

That's why for me, this story makes no sense and the Goblin bride character did not even need to be the drama.

No, you're not the only one. I watched up until they started going to war and then watched the last episode. Didn't feel like I missed anything and the FL's character remained the same.

Yes, I have to agree with you. Some of the things in this story and The Story of Pearl Girl are very hard to watch. Did you watch Zhao Lu Si's drama Hidden Love? She is very happy-go-lucky in that one!

That's okay. Zhao Lu Si is not everyone's favorite. My question is why do you feel the need to share this on this forum? There are many actresses that I do not care for, but I don't go on any of their dramas to say that I don't care for them. I just don't watch their dramas. It is my loss if they are good dramas.

Thank you for your thoughtful analysis of this drama from the women's perspective. However, I have to disagree that a woman should have won the game. The story is about SGH and how selfish he is. Throughout the story he learns that life is hard for others, but they sacrifice everything to help their loved ones. In the end, he finally realizes how selfish he has been. For his mom it is too late, but he can help his aunt.

I don't think this was meant to be a comedy or to have fun. Real life sucks. The only person having fun is the old man and there is a reason for that.

This should have been called Cinderella and the Five Knights as "Cinderella" becomes a counselor for the three cousins, the personal assistant to the grandfather, and the grandfather into being better people.

For me, it is basically a political drama with, as ArbazAkhtar says, 15% romance. With that being said, it has taken me several months to get to episode 37 which I watched today. Some people have binged watched it. However, the title of the drama pretty much says it all, imo. It is really about how much joy someone gets out of life.
