It was a different time. Asian culture and traditions have evolved, they aren't as strict as the old days, at least from what I observe. Nowadays, parents and elders doesn't always get to decide, but they will continue to guide you and give advices and whatnot even if you don't really want it...regardless, you still get to decide in the end. Of course, there will always be an exception, but in general, gone are the days where parents get to tell you how to live your life once you become an adult.
