This drama portrays a hero who does not involve himself with politics of palace and tries to avoid it. I think his only goal as portrayed is to serve his people that is the people of zhenzhou(his territory) and protect his family and loved ones. Well in normal peoples' lives they also want to protect and care about only their loved ones and the world can go to hell, They don't care about other things if it is not related to their loved ones and hence this drama connects well with the people.
